China has now issued a “Travel Advisory” for citizens visiting the United States because of the turmoil being created by the Socialist Left, stating the violence in the U.S. has reached a dangerous precedent. I agree with most analysts, America is in a Civil War between two political ideologies in an attempt to change or maintain the current government. Throw in trigger happy cops that shoot the innocent, the danger level then expands into a 3 way war.
A “Good Samaritan” with a concealed carry permit, in his attempt to break-up a fight, gets shot in the back by police when the man’s weapon fell to the ground and his attempt to secure the weapon was his fatal last move. (See Featured Article below)
The common command by police for the man to “drop the weapon, or freeze” did not happen.
Shooting the “good guys” accidently is an ongoing problem with Law Enforcement. The problem is either poor training, or cops with a general hate for the public no matter who you are. It’s interesting to hear negative rhetoric by certain cops I’ve known, of whom feel superior to citizen “scumbags” and one I knew called all citizens”violators.” Obviously, their circle of friends are all cops. I’ve known a few that were hardcore KKK members in Tennessee !
Cops are not some magically created super human with a few here and there lacking commonsense, while some are war torn Afghanistan door kickers, “shoot anything that moves” with unreported PTSD symptoms are out there in our communities.
WE need them all badly, but common ground between CCW concealed carry citizens is a dangerous situation requiring additional training on both sides.
I guess it goes with the territory and Portland, where the “Good Samaritan” was killed, is typical of a demographic with cops displaying jittery nerves.
The “carry concealed” (CCW) citizen has proven to be 98% law abiding and respectful of law enforcement, but often enough, when a CCW citizen (either) involves himself, or is in the wrong place at the wrong time, the CCW citizen can easily become the false perpetrator as decided by the first cop on the scene. But what makes the situation worse, is when the cop doesn’t use his training properly, or reacts without thinking….claiming later, he felt his “life was in jeopardy.”
Traffic stops are the worse and how you maneuver your hands can get you killed, especially in some cases when you have advised the officer that you have a weapon. In many states, you are NOT required to volunteer that information during a traffic stop, but discretion and your psychic sense of mind should guide you.
Most cops appreciate the immediate disclosure, while others will stand-back with their gun drawn. However, the officer probably knows you have a weapon because it will show-up during a tag check. Don’t assume that as the case…
Finding a solution to a dangerous situation with a rookie or rogue cop entering a situation or scene and you are standing there with a gun in hand, is not an easy situation when seconds count.
When I received by first CCW, the training was provided by a retired cop. He discussed several scenarios and the number one lesson was to never allow your weapon to be taken away from you during a physical assault, and if you do pull your weapon, you had better be ready to shoot and kill……”and be sure to unload most or all your rounds into the perpetrator, because if he lives, he will sue the hell out of you.” Note: That logic is NOT any part of law enforcement training, only for private citizens.
Even though you killed the sucker, his family will likely try to sue you and if you can’t prove (beyond a doubt) the perp was a threat worth shooting….you go to jail. In some states, no matter the circumstances, you will go to jail anyway.
It’s a delicate balance between a split second decision for shooting versus pulling the weapon to stop a threat or assault without shooting.
Ok…so you just shot the perp at Walmart or somewhere, the crowd looks at you as the bad guy, and another CCW citizen decides to pull his weapon on you while at the same time, cops are coming through the door like hornets. What should you do?
I recommend that you immediately display a type of I.D. such as your CCW permit, but while you are fumbling through your wallet (with one hand), you might get shot. Secure any weapon in the perp’s hand by using your foot to slide the weapon away from the threat.
I carry my plastic sealed document(s) on a neck chain / strap, inside my shirt and can pull it out immediately. I could then hold it up with my empty hand while in the other hand, holding the weapon with thumb on one side and 4 fingers on the opposite side of the weapon in a none threatening manner…..yelling for someone to call 911 while securing the scene, keeping people away.
However, the situation can change immediately, especially if the wife of the perp you just shot decides to attack you. I’ll not address what to do next, but at least have a couple rounds left, just incase she decides to grab her husband’s or boyfriend’s weapon you just secured. Ask for immediate help to contain her and get her away….but if you are in a questionable neighborhood, you have a problem…period.
The main reason for any type of business card size or slightly larger identification attached to a neck strap I.D. holder could keep you from being immediately shot by a trigger happy cop that enters the scene. Obviously, he can not read the CCW or any I.D. hanging from your neck, but will give him pause and will he will want to take a few more seconds to properly assess the situation.
He will not know (immediately) if you are a cop, or security type, but will give him a quick assessment. If you have nothing to show those around you, or for the arriving cop, you can easily be assessed as the “bad guy.”
Hold your weapon in the air WITHOUT your hand wrapped around the grip, but perpendicular to your hand with just your fingers.
Hold your I.D. holder in the air with your empty hand. (Keep both hands above your head when police arrive at the scene and tell them you are a concealed carry citizen). Some CCW trainers tell students to lay the weapon on the ground while securing the scene, but that is another” damn if you do and damn if you don’t.” Every situation requires immediate commonsense actions.
No CCW in states not requiring one…..think about a CCW shield that can be bought online. Or at the very least….your driver’s license in the I.D. holder.
In today’s world and all the turmoil happening, people and cops are on edge. Everything you do to protect yourself and/or others requires commonsense.
If you can properly identify yourself (with I.D.) in-hand immediately, you have a better chance of not being shot by a cop that fears for his life. At the very least, pull your I.D. holder (on a neck strap) immediately before or after shots fired and let it be seen dangling on your chest area.
Nobody at the scene, or arriving at the scene will immediately want a close-up look at your I.D.
If you are fleeing a scene because you shot one or two and there are other shooters, by all means, secure your weapon as necessary back in your body holster…..unless you are still under fire.
WE have more reason(s) today to never leave your weapon at home, and I can tell you from experience, the day you do leave it at home you will wish you hadn’t. The best you can do in a potentially dangerous situation is appear to be carrying a weapon, but could either save your ass or get you killed. Case in point…..
While walking out of a Tucson Walmart to my vehicle, and without my concealed weapon in my waist band, there were three gang banger types that looked at me and decided to make a 45 degree left turn towards me. My gut feeling kicked-in and I knew they were interested in me….that’s when they turned towards me. With no weapon, because I stupidly left it at home, I began to use my thumb (extended) to slowly edge my thumb under the bottom of my t-shirt while beginning a slow move to appear I was about to pull a weapon. In this case….it worked. The three gang bangers re-directed their walk away from me.
A safer option would be to immediately pull your cellphone and dial 911 and tell them you might have a situation “is about to happen, so standby with me” while giving her your location and other information. That alone can divert the threat.
Like they say, “When seconds count, police are only 2 minutes away.”
During these times and what’s coming soon, we need our law enforcement to be well trained or re-trained to deal with the dangerous atmosphere the Communist Left are perpetuating. Law and order has gone out the window and we as Americans are pretty much on our own.
As the threat increases, law enforcement will be less effective, as we saw in the Portland Riots this past week, police stating they would “not attempt to protect ether side.” If you live in a state with anti-gun laws, you are vulnerable while the ‘bad guys’ will have guns.
In those states with outrageous gun laws, you have to use your best judgment for staying alive during a crisis. The number one rule for anyone carrying a concealed weapon, if it bulges….it’s a weapon. Fanny packs for illegally carrying a concealed weapon is a no no.

I think we can expect to see more gun owners in various hot spots carrying openly.

WATCH: Cops Shoot, Kill ‘Good Samaritan’ Father and Veteran for Trying To Break Up Fight

Portland, OR – A community is outraged after a father and U.S. Navy veteran was shot and killed by police while witnesses claim he was trying to break up a fight, but when his handgun fell out of its holster and he reached to pick it up, police did not hesitate to open fire on him.
Jason E. Washington, 45, will be remembered as a beloved father of three daughters who married his high school sweetheart, served in the Navy, and was working as a U.S. postal worker. He was also the only one who attempted to break up a fight that broke out on a street corner in downtown Portland while nearby police did nothing to help.
Witness Keyaira Smith began filming the encounter, and she told Oregon Public Broadcasting that she believes Washington was just “trying to be a good Samaritan” by attempting to break up the fight, and when two Portland State University Police officers approached the scene, they “did not appear to try to stop the fight.”
The video shows Washington attempting to corral a man in a blue shirt, who Smith said was responsible for starting the conflict because he was using racial slurs against a Black man nearby.
“The guy in blue had used some racial slurs earlier when they were in the street kiddy corner to where they were in this video and that’s what brought it to this point, and started the whole thing,” Smith said.
At one point, the handgun Washington was carrying in a holster on his right hip becomes visible, and then Washington tripped.
“The gun slipped out of the holster when he had fallen, and I think he may have tried to retrieve it,”Smith said. “Then they said ‘gun.’”
As is the case with numerous officer-involved shootings across the country, when an officer yells the word “GUN,” it is used as a warning sign to let other officers know that a suspect is armed and in many cases it serves as justification for the officers who open fire seconds later, before they can accurately ascertain whether they saw an actual gun or the person with the gun was attempting to harm them or anyone else.
The officer opened fire immediately and struck Washington—the good Samaritan whose only participation in the fight was his attempt to stop it from happening.
“There was absolutely no hesitation at all. [The officer] went straight for his gun,” Smith said, noting that at the time he was shot, Washington had his back turned to police.
The officers responsible for the shooting have been identified as Shawn McKenzie and James Dewey. In response to the incident, Portland State University President Rahmat Shoureshi released a statement promising that the campus public safety chief would conduct an internal review of the shooting, and action would be taken accordingly.
“I want to express my concern about the fatal officer-involved shooting early this morning,”Shoureshi said. “I know there are many questions about the incident, and we want to keep you informed as best we can … I have asked our Campus Public Safety Chief to conduct a thorough internal assessment and evaluation of this incident as well as our policies and procedures.”
Washington’s death has left his family heartbroken. His friend, Alyssa LeCesne, told Oregon Live that Washington will be remembered as “an upstanding man who was proud to have helped raise a household full of women,” and he is leaving behind his wife, three daughters and a 5-year-old granddaughter who “worshipped the ground he walked on.”
