How To Sell Products Using Affiliate Marketing

Are you an affiliate marketer who doesn’t get the results you want?

Are you tired of creating great content and not making any sales?

I can relate! It’s frustrating to be sure.

However, my mentor taught me how to sell products using affiliate marketing the “right way”, and now I know what to do.

Affiliate Marketing The “Wrong Way”

As a newbie affiliate marketer, I made the mistake most beginners make.

No, I didn’t go and spam my link all over the internet…. that is the absolute wrong way!

This is what I did

I would drive traffic from my blog, YouTube channel, Facebook, etc. right to the product I was promoting. 

For instance, I would have a detailed blog post about some product, and within that blog post I would have my affiliate links.  Those links went straight to the product.

If they ended up buying the product, I’d be happy!

But what if they didn’t?

Well that is the flaw in the strategy above.  And that is why it is the wrong way to do affiliate marketing.  Wrong in that you are leaving money on the table and can do better.

So, what is a better way?

I will explain.

Affiliate Marketing The “Correct Way”

Here is the “correct way” to do affiliate marketing. 

In this strategy, we use a sales funnel and an email autoresponder to drive sales.

Instead of sending traffic from your content to just a sales page, you first want to send them to an Opt-In page. 

Here is an example of an opt-in page:

An opt-in page is the first step in the sales funnel, and it’s usually a hook with a place for your lead to put in an email address. 

Why do you want their email address? 

I will get to that in a second.

After they enter in their information, they are then taken to a bridge page.

It’s called a bridge page because it’s a bridge between you and the product you are selling.  This is where you introduce yourself and give a little more of your story. 

Without this page, potential customers might get confused when they go from your content, to another company’s sales page.  And a confused person will never buy.

The bridge page will tell the potential customer what to expect in the next step of the funnel, so they don’t get confused with how they got there.

I recommend a video on your bridge page because it is more personal. However, if you are uncomfortable on camera, you can do a written introduction.  But you cannot skip this page.

The next step is the actual sales page.

This is where the company you are an affiliate of takes over and talks about their product. 

In the example above, Dave Sharp talks about Legendary Marketer and how they can help you build an online business. 

If your lead buys, then you earn a commission.

Why Do You Collect Email Addresses

Your email list is your business.  This will become your #1 asset. 

  • Facebook can shut down your group.
  • Google can change their algorithm and wipe out your SEO work
  • YouTube could ban your channel

It can all go away tomorrow, and all the work you did will be gone!

But your email list is yours. You control it. You own it.

You can use your emails to build a rapport with your new customer.  Let them get to know you by telling them your story. And you can keep sending emails to your list until they unsubscribe or become a loyal fan.

But getting back to our diagram above, you can send emails to the people that opted in pushing them back to the sales page.

Most people buy after 5 – 12 exposures to your product or service. If you aren’t following up with people after the initial contact, then you are missing out on a majority of sales.

Which Strategy Works Better?

The first strategy that most beginners make (I include myself in this) is more of a “hope and pray” strategy.  We put our link out there and hope we make money.

The second strategy, the right way, takes a little more work up front, but once you have it put in place, you can leave it alone because it’s all automated.

More importantly, you are building an email list which will become your #1 asset.

There is a stat that says you should make on average, a $1 / month for every person you have on your list.  So, if you have 10,000 people on your list, you should make $10,000 a month. 

I hope you can see the power of an email list.

Where Do You Learn How to Do This?

This is just a brief explanation of how to do affiliate marketing the correct way.  There is more to it and it takes time.  You will need to learn:

  • How to build a sales funnel
  • Copy writing
  • How to create content to drive traffic
  • How to sell
