After US Enables Ballistic Missile System in Romania, Russia Commences HUGE Military Deployment

“Despite being warned by Russia that the deployment of an Anti Ballistic Missile (ABM) system in eastern Europe would be viewed as a direct threat to Russia, NATO did it anyway.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday announced the United States and its allies activated a land-based missile defense station in Romania, which will form part of a larger and controversial European shield. Senior US and NATO officials attended the Ribbon-cutting ceremony in Deveselu, southern Romania.

The US says the Aegis system is a shield to protect NATO countries from short and medium-range missiles, particularly from the Middle East. But Russia sees it as a security threat- a claim denied by NATO. Relations between the West and Russia have deteriorated since Moscow’s annexation of Ukraine’s southern Crimea peninsula in 2014.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and other senior officials from the military alliance attended the opening ceremony at an old Romanian air base in Deveselu, 110 miles southwest of Bucharest. The site hosts radar and SM-3 missile interceptors, and will be integrated into NATO missile shield when the bloc meets this summer.

NATO and US officials told Russia that the shield in Romania, and a similar one in Poland, does not undermine Russia’s strategic nuclear deterrent. “The interceptors are too few and located too far south or too close to Russia to be able to intercept Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles,” Mr Stoltenberg said. He said the interceptors were designed “instead to tackle the potential threat posed by short and medium- range attacks from outside the Euro-Atlantic area”.

But Russia says installing such shields in countries on its doorstep is a threat to its security. “Who will this system be against?” President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, questioned. “To begin with, the explanation we were given was a potential rocket attack from Iran… but as of now we know the situation has changed dramatically.”

Russian Militiary Activated: Although the United States vehemently denies that the system is aimed at Russia, but rather at rogue nations such as Iran and North Korea, Russia has opted to react to this development with its military. Assets from the Russian Air force, Navy, and Army have begun large operations across Russia, with the largest buildup of ground assets near the Ukrainian border. Multiple air sorties from Russia have been observed including Russia’s continuing provocative actions against U.S. and allied aircraft, along with large numbers of Russian ships operating in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany have now increased their number of active air sorties by nearly double in the last 24 hours. Increased military radio traffic from the U.S. and allies, as well as from Russia has been monitored.

Some believe this increased military activity to be an over-reaction on Russia’s part and expect this alert to be short lived. Others are not so sure.   One Naval source in the Pentagon told SuperStation95 that it appears Russia “has sortied their whole God damned fleet!” While a larger than typical number of Russian naval vessels have been operating in various oceans for months, the source told us that with very few exceptions, “our satellites indicate heat blooms in almost every Russian naval vessel in a port and there are growing lines of transport trucks carrying supplies to many, many vessels.” A heat bloom indicates the vessels engines have been started.

Another individual source in the Pentagon, this one from the Army, said “Convoys of trucks, we believe to be carrying ammunition and weapons for the Ukrainian separatists, are now crossing the Russian border into Ukraine in great numbers.” In addition, another Army officer allegedly told this source that “activity by Russian military assets into Syria has suddenly skyrocketed.” We were not able to corroborate the comments from that other Army officer.

With Spring having arrived in Ukraine, a full military action by Russia could “liberate” eastern Ukraine- or all of Ukraine- within days once officially undertaken. That has not happened- yet. If, however, Russia were to move into Ukraine, there is little that the US or NATO could do as Ukraine is not a NATO member. Moreover the Russians have unlimited supply lines and troop access to the Ukraine. Since that is the reality, it is widely believed that if Russia were to undertake an overt military action, Ukraine would fall within 36 hours. Since the west already imposed sanctions upon Russia after it absorbed Crimea, there do not appear to be many additional measures the west could undertake to challenge or discourage future Russian military moves in Ukraine.

As a note, the demeanor of our sources in the Pentagon seemed unusual insofar as conveying concern over these developments. While they asked that we specifically not report certain things they’ve told us- and we have not- they did say this “looks a lot worse than anyone is admitting.” Given this unique statement by military sources whom we trust, we believe it is important for the public to remain alert, since any situation involving the U.S. and Russia has the potential to spiral out of control.”
