Salt Lake City, UT – Over 600 people rallied at the Salt Lake City and County Building on Nov. 9 to protest President-elect Trump. Grassroots activist groups are mobilizing against the women haters, bigoted racists, and Wall Street bankers, all championed by Donald Trump.
Leaders of Utah Against Police Brutality, Comunidades Unidas, union members and Young Democrats all spoke. Misty Snow, the first transgender woman to run for Senate, condemned Trump for his bigoted agenda. She also criticized the Democratic Party for their failure to address the needs of the people. Messages of unity, solidarity, and the need to organize ran throughout the rally.
“Trump is a symbol of everything that is wrong in this country. He is a promoter of racist, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim attacks. He is a misogynist, a homophobe and a sexual harasser,” said Gabriella Killpack of the Utah Anti-War Committee.
Killpack continued, “In the coming years of the Trump presidency, I implore you to keep struggling against this corrupt system that does not represent the people. Demand no more mass deportations, no border wall, no ban on Muslims and no to war!”
The protesters chanted, “Sí, se puede!” and “Still we rise!” The organizers of the event called for a continuation of activism as the Trump presidency approaches.
