Another Chance to STOP Duke Energy’s Ratepayer Rip-Off Bill!

In early September, a majority of North Carolina’s House of Representatives stood up to Duke Energy and removed the most controversial provisions of Senate Bill 559 (Duke’s “Ratepayer Rip-Off” bill) and replaced them with a broad study of how best to set electricity rates in the state.

The Senate rejected the House version so that Duke could put provisions like multi-year rate hikes back into the bill, and then passed the bill just last week in a sneaky, last-minute addition to the calendar. According to one manufacturing group, the bill could increase your electric bill by as much as 50%. 

We expect that the bill will come back before the full House on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
