5 More Famous People Who Believe In Extraterrestrials

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Dateline Zero – This is a continuation from last week’s “5 Famous People Who Believe in UFOs.”

A friend of mine read the title over my shoulder as I was typing this out at a coffee shop. He commented, “people only want to know about ‘famous people’ who believe in UFOs, eh?” To which I replied, “Chya! Maybe I oughtta write something like ’5 people you’ve never heard of who believe in UFOs’ next time?”

Fact is, people like to be validated in their beliefs. Even though, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter if someone with celebrity status agrees with you on some issue like extraterrestrial life, or God, or ghosts, or whatever. It’s gossip, of curse; but it’s also validation of a belief set for some people.

6. David Bowie

UFO Digest has a great article about David Bowie’s interest in UFOs. In fact, from very early in his life he had an “interest in all matters extraterrestrial.”

As a Brit teenager, David had helped edit a flying saucer newsletter. He admitted to me that he loved science fiction and was fascinated with life in space and the possibility that quite a few cosmic visitors had ended up on our earthly shores.

During a conversation, Bowie had gone out on a limb revealing that he had once had a close encounter. In the book Laugh Gnostic, author Peter Koening paraphrases what Bowie said: “A friend and I were traveling in the English countryside when we both noticed a strange object hovering above a field. From then on I have come to take this phenomena seriously. I believe that what I saw was not the actual object, but a projection of my own mind trying to make sense of this quantum topological doorway into dimensions beyond our own. It’s as if our dimension is but one among an infinite number of others.”

7. Gordon Cooper

Gordon Cooper “was one of the seven original astronauts in Project Mercury, the first manned space effort by the United States. He was the first American to sleep in orbit, had flown the longest spaceflight of the Mercury project, and was the last American to be launched alone into Earth orbit and conduct an entire solo orbital mission.”

He says he never saw UFOs in space, however; and he’s denied any such reports. However he did see them in 1951, while flying a F-68 jet over Germany. He had no trouble discussing what he saw. He wrote a letter to the United Nations in 1978 asking for a program to research the phenomenon.

Cooper also described the sightings to numerous reporters. “Several days in a row we sighted groups of metallic, saucer-shaped vehicles at great altitudes over the base, and we tried to get close to them, but they were able to change direction faster than our fighters,” he said. “I do believe UFOs exists and that the truly unexplained ones are from some other technologically advanced civilization. From my association with aircraft and spacecraft, I think I have a pretty good idea of what everyone on this planet has and their performance capabilities, and I’m sure some of the UFOs at least are not from anywhere on Earth.”

There’s a short video HERE of him speaking about his experience for a television program. No doubt Cooper’s experiences with UFOs are what motivated him toward joining the U.S. space program.

8. Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver stars in the sci-fi comedy Paul, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost; and is most famous for playing Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise. Not only does she believe in aliens, and UFOs, she also believes that there’s a U.S. government cover-up. She’s pretty open about her thoughts on the matter, when asked.

She recently told German magazine TV Spielfilm: “We are not alone in the universe. I think there’s a department in our government which is exclusively dedicated to quashing reports about aliens. And that’s so unfair. It would be nice if we weren’t just able to read about it in the tabloids.”

9. Sammy Hagar

The “Red Rocker” made waves when his autobiography came out a few weeks ago. Not so much for what’s included within the pages of Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock; but what’s apparently not included. During a promotional interview with MTV, he talked about an abduction experience as well as about UFO sightings he had as a child. Most of this material isn’t in the book, and the abduction is described as a dream. “It was real,” Hagar said.

Joel Selvin, who put the autobiography together, suggested the UFO experiences not be included in the autobiography. “He talked me out of it,” Hagar said. “He’d be like, ‘Aw, people don’t want to hear that shit.’”

10. John Lennon

According to Mind Set Central, on August 23rd, 1974 John Lennon walked out on to the balcony of his New York apartment, and witnessed what he later described as a “Flying Saucer” hovering closely, just above his window. Lennon’s girlfriend at the time, May Pang, also witnessed the event.

He included the encounter within two different songs on different albums:
“Like a UFO you came to me, and blew away life’s misery…” — Out of the Blue, from the album Mind Games. “There’s UFO’s over New York, and I aint too surprised…” — Nobody Told Me, from the album Milk and Honey.
