Child of ‘Kelly Green Men Case’ Spoke to Historical Society

Geraldine Sutton Stith spoke to the Historical Society of Hopkins County in downtown Madisonville, Kentucky, on the evening of October 10, after members of the society invited her to their monthly meeting.

Stith is the daughter of Lucky Sutton, whose farm was visited in 1955 by a spaceship and its 15 or so little green occupants. She has since written a book about that night and the activities surrounding it: Alien Legacy – Based on a True Event.

On the night of Aug. 21, 1955, Hopkins County police officials were called upon to help investigate the incident, which seemed to involve hostile extraterrestrials who were resistant to gunfire. What took place left the family of Lucky Sutton shaken to this day; and made a lasting mark on the history of the community. (The town now holds a regular “Little Green Men Days.”)

Stith was not even born when her father and friends did battle with the aliens, and it was a story she was not fond of hearing as a child.

“Back then, I didn’t really think about it, because this story always scared me,” she said. “I was real little when I found out about it. They kept it hidden from us for so long. All of the older kids in the family knew about it, but none of us younger kids did.

“For years, I would go through the house at nighttime and close all the windows and the shades and the doors because I was afraid something would look in at us.”

Stith said she wrote the book, and speaks at events, because so much of what had begun to be shared of the story is incorrect.
