You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

This passage of scripture can get both the sexes in a huff.  The women will protest and declare that they are not the weaker vessel, and the men will use this passage to wax superior over the women.  However, after almost 31 years of marriage I have experienced all aspects of this verse and weigh in on it now.

First off:   and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life,

Do we do this?  Do we lay down our lives as Christ laid His down for the church?  Do we grant our wives honor?  Do we cherish them? This is the question that each man/husband must ask himself.

Divorce rates are through the roof and it would appear that marriage is being attacked on all fronts, from the Gay agenda who are force-feeding gay marriage down our throats, to the under 30 crowd which refuses to make a commitment and thus, many are still living at home, or worse living with each other without a commitment, which robs both the man and the woman of a future, as without commitment either party can walk away at any time.

Here’s my public confession and I don’t mind doing this as I know most everyone out there has had the same problem at some point.  I wasn’t nice to my Wifey this week.  I was short-tempered with her and even mean at one point.  All of a sudden I found I could no longer pray.  It was troubling and on my run this morning I was asking Father where I went wrong.

As soon as I asked he began to show me how I didn’t cherish my Wifey, how I didn’t honor her.  I repented and guess what?  My prayer life was restored.  This is the power of the Spirit of the Living God in our lives; to correct us and keep us under construction.  In other words we are being conformed into His image and thus we will be corrected while we are alive in this body on planet earth.

These scriptures we read are alive.  They are there for our admonition and in some cases, like the verse above, they are a warning for us.

It’s up to the man to cherish his wife, to honor her and lay his life down for her.  How many men actually attempt to do this?  This is certainly not taught in our culture and in fact unless a young man is mentored in this he may believe, to his own detriment and that of his future wife’s, the model we see presented in Rap music or flashed across countless movie screens.

In closing todays Bun:  We husbands should honor our wives.  We should cherish them so that our prayers are not hindered!
