The pattern of erosion on the Sphinx indicates that it was carved at the end of the last Ice Age, when heavy rains fell in the eastern Sahara, more than 12,000 years ago. This contrasts starkly with the ‘orthodox’ Egyptological dating for the Sphinx of around 4,500 years. 

The seismic survey indicated the existence of several unexplored tunnels and cavities in the bedrock beneath the Sphinx, including a large rectangular chamber at a depth of some 25 feet beneath the monuments front paws.
In 1993, John West and his team, were physically expelled from the site by Dr. Zahi Hawass, the Egyptian government’s Chief Inspector of Antiquities for the Pyramids and Sphinx.

In November 1922, an amazing discovery would be made in the valley of kings by this man. his name was Howard Carter, he was employed to provide modern archaeological practices to the past excavations in the valley.
The Egyptian government wanted to confirm that all discoveries within the valley of kings had already been made.
He would eventually find a set of steps buried in the sand, these steps would lead to the untouched tomb of Tutankhamun.
He wired Lord Carnarvon to come to Egypt. On 26 November 1922 with Carnarvon, his daughter Lady Evelyn Herbert and others in attendance, Carter made the “tiny breach in the top left hand corner” of the doorway (with a chisel his grandmother had given him for his 17th birthday.) He was able to peer in by the light of a candle and see that many of the gold and ebony treasures were still in place. He did not yet know whether it was “a tomb or merely a cache”, but he did see a promising sealed doorway between two sentinel statues. When Carnarvon asked “Can you see anything?”, Carter replied with the famous words:

“Yes, wonderful things!”
