Behind the scenes of Royale Shapes video and stills shoot

Royal Hair Salon contacted me to create a promotional video with their salon and some of their unique and creative concepts. For this production we worked with four amazing models from Onway Models dressed by and with jewlary by Portuguese designer Valentim Quaresma. Their creation were so inspiring that I decided to take some shots as well.

To capture these stunning creations I used a Rapid box beauty dish from Westcott with a Profoto mount on a Profoto B1 off camera flash as main light and a Profoto B1 with a honeycomb and a Profoto B2 as rim light.

The setting we used to film the models.

To film the models we used two Ice Light on a BIC1 Modular Ball Mounting System in a V shape in front of the Fujifilm X-T2 as a main light and a Flex by Westcott as hair light

We lit the salon using two Ice Light and a Flex to create a bright and clean look.

Diego Verissimo, Luis Salzedas, Sara Kruss Taborda, Pedro Davim and I all the work at their salon we went back to my studio to film some additional footage.

I really wanted to hi-light the color and the texture of some of the materials that they use so we use macro photography techniques to create awesome details.

With the help from the Promedia Duoslider we captured details in motion of hair gel, hairspray and some other non related products that added to the overall quality of the film.

Here is the setup we used from a far.

In the image above you can see the Fujifilm X-T2 on the Promedia Duoslider. We used the Metabones adapter to use the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L macro IS USM. The ice light is great in this kind of situation because you can fit it almost anywhere due to its size

The Pelican 1510 Case is my on-location lighting case, because of its sturdiness and ability to take a beating. It’s so sturdy in fact that I’m able to stand on it and gain a few inches without fearing for my lighting kit.
