Muslim threat to pyramids is not a hoax

“It’s a hoax! It’s right-wing nut jobs eager to besmirch the religion of peace! It’s bad journalism! Of course Muslims wouldn’t destroy the pyramids. That would be crazy!”

These reactions, predictable as they were, came almost immediately after the publication of last week’s Technocracy, “The death cult hopes to destroy the pyramids.” The column recounts accurately a report carried in the Assyrian International News Agency, or AINA, in which an alleged Saudi Muslim cleric called on Egypt’s new leadership to destroy the ancient pyramids as an offense to Islam (because of their inherently idolatrous nature).

When that column was written for publication, and as cited in Raymond Ibrahim’s Frontpage report carried by AINA, multiple Arab news outlets ran the story as fact. It was not until after the piece was submitted that the Twitter account from which the call to Egypt’s government was made was revealed to be an imposter. Leftists and moderates immediately began bleating that the threat to the pyramids was a lie, a nefarious scheme promulgated by ignorant and lazy right-wingers whose only goal was to malign Islam and spread fear. It became very easy for those who share the liberals’ self-destructive and willful ignorance to dismiss the entire story as a hoax.

Except that it isn’t a hoax at all.

Lost in the denunciations of the pyramids story was the fact that Muslims in Mali only recently destroyed (painstakingly and by hand) a pair of ancient tombs, which they considered idolatrous and thus an “assault on Islam.” As AFP reported, adherents of Islam have threatened to “destroy all World Heritage sites” in Timbuktu. Quoting a “Tunisian jihadist” who was part of a “media committee” in the region, AFP reported that the Islamists believe there is no world heritage; they say it “doesn’t exist.” The jihadist, identified as “Ahmed,” went on to say, “The infidels must not get involved in our business. … We will destroy everything, even if the mausolea are inside the mosques, and afterwards we will destroy the mausolea in the region of Timbuktu.”

The best example of Muslims destroying priceless historical artifacts comes, famously now, from Afghanistan. In 2001 in Afghanistan, the Taliban famously destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan, artifacts described by CNN as “among the world’s great artistic and religious treasures.” The statues were 1,500 years old – and now they are rubble, blown to pieces by an Islamist regime that considered all “pre-Islamic artifacts” to be “an assault on Islam.”

Both of these examples were cited in last week’s column. These are the most accurate indicators of the stewardship of ancient Egypt we can expect from fundamentalist Islam – as represented by the increasingly hostile, anti-American Muslim Brotherhood. It is a fact that to Islamists, the mere existence of a historical structure or piece of artwork is an “assault” on Islam because the creation of that edifice cannot be attributed to Islam. Worse, even historical Muslim artifacts are not safe, because these may be venerated and, thus, also become offensive to their wretched death cult.

And it is a death cult. Muslim theocracies vary, yes. Some, like Saudi Arabia, are wealthy and technologically advanced (owing more to the presence of oil than to any other factor). Most are barely more than medieval gulags in which citizens live a feudal existence in the thrall of their cleric overlords. All are characterized by repression, heavy restrictions on even the most benign of personal conduct and rampant misogyny. Invariably, those attempting to make excuses for Islam will point to medieval Christianity in an effort to claim that both religions are violent and oppressive. The difference is that Christians stopped forcibly converting others long ago. Today’s Muslims are still murdering infidels and honor-killing their own family members, attempting to foist the evil that is Shariah law on every society they infect.

Yes, Islam is an infection. No society burning with its fever can survive for long; Muslims have shown repeatedly, such as in Europe and the U.K., that once their numbers reach sufficient quantities, they will begin forcing the host society to bend to their backward ways and their bloodthirsty whims. Have we forgotten the police officers in Paris who cannot travel safely to Muslim “no-go” sectors of that historic city? Have we forgotten the 2005 Muslim riots that raged through Paris and then beyond it? Will we blithely accept the establishment of a “shadow legal system,” as Shariah enclaves overwhelm our Constitution – with the help of American liberals, who already hate our free society’s founding principles?

The threat to the pyramids is not a hoax, because the danger presented by Islam to all historical treasures is real. It makes no difference who makes calls to the Muslim Brotherhood to destroy such artifacts. Whether from legitimate Muslim clerics or shamming troublemakers, these calls were heard by the Muslim world and were repeated throughout Arab media. The message reached the Muslim Brotherhood’s ears. These are a people, a religion, the scions of a sociological control schema, whose every thought, breath and deed is aggression and destruction. Islam does not mean “peace,” but submission. Where non-Muslims are concerned, this submission is involuntary. It is subjugation, conversion by force. You will obey Muslim laws. You will adhere to Muslim philosophy. You will do nothing to offend Muslim sensibilities.

Or you will be murdered.

That is the reality of Islam. The threat to historical artifacts is a symptom more than it is a problem. Yes, the loss of historical treasures is regrettable, but those who own or control land are free to do what they will with the properties contained on and by that land. The threat to the pyramids, and to all history, is not the call to prevent Egypt’s Islamists from doing as they will with these structures, no matter how contemptuous and ignorant Muslim behavior may be.

Rather, Muslims’ willingness to destroy the past is a warning to every human being they will attempt to destroy in the future.
