Alert: South Dakota Has A Con-Con Bill That Must Be Stopped, Article V Amendment Is at Stake

Our County needs your help in stopping the Con-Con.  Once 34 states have passed an Article V Amendment Convention Resolution, then the U.S, Congress will be forced to call a Federal Constitutional Convention.  There is no limit what will take place at the constitutional convention. The convention more or likely will  turn into a runaway convention. Also there is  NO  procedure on how the delegates will be chosen. We must fight the evil forces behind the scene that want to scrap our U.S. Constitution and turn us all into slaves.

Tues, Feb. 19  at 8:30 a.m!

HJR1003:  A JOINT RESOLUTION, making formal application to Congress to call a limited constitutional convention for the sole purpose of proposing a federal balanced budget amendment.

IMPORTANT: Advocates of a convention deceptively offer false assurances that a convention can be limited to a single subject. Some state legislators feel safe with their state’s call for a Con-Con because they have added to it a “null and void” clause if the convention cannot be limited to the specific purpose of proposing an amendment to balance the budget. 

        Article V authorizes the states only to 

        apply for a convention.  Once underway, 

        the convention makes its own rules and 

        could reject any or all restrictions on 

        its activity and assert its supreme power 

        by virtue of its direct authority from the    

        Constitution.

HJR1003 was introduced by the House Taxation Committee and then assigned to the House Taxation Committee on January 29, 2013.  It’s scheduled to be heard by the Taxation Committee at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013!

The original creator of this bill is Hal Wick (R), Vice Chair of the Taxation Committee.  (He missed the cut-off date to introduce the bill, so it was introduced by the Taxation Committee.)  

His home phone number is 605-332-1360.  PLEASE call him at home TODAY, Monday, Feb. 18, (because they’re NOT in session today due to Presidents’ Day) and ask that this bill be tabled.  Message:  if HJR1003, the call for a Constitutional Convention, comes to a vote, please vote NO.  Do not put our Constitution at risk by asking Congress to “call a Convention for the purpose of proposing amendments.” Article V of the Constitution does not provide any way to limit an “amendments convention.”

For the past 225 years we have amended the Constitution without a convention. We don’t need to start now.  It’s not worth the risk.

Message for Chairman :  Please stop forward action on HJR1003.  It is dangerous and puts us in risk of losing our Constitution.  Article V of the Constitution does not provide any way to limit an “amendments convention.”
