Former San Diego Mayor Stole $2 Million From Charity, Won $2 Billion Gambling

OK, there is more to this story than we are hearing, but none the less, it’s points out how the rich just never have enough, and they don’t care who they hurt to get more money..

Using $2 million siphoned from her late husband’s charity, former San Diego mayor Maureen O’Connor won more than $1 billion but lost even more during a nine-year gambling spree that now finds her charged with money laundering, the U.S. attorney announced Thursday.

Now, I’m not much of a gambler, but she won $1 billion?? Was she incredibly lucky, or what?

And their saying she gambled at casinos in San Diego, Las Vegas, and Atlantic CIty.

Prosecutors said that O’Connor won more than $1 billion gambling at casinos in San Diego, Las Vegas and Atlantic City between 2000 and 2009. But she lost even more over the same period, they said.

O’Connor has also undergone serious and significant medical treatment recently after a brain tumor was removed in 2011. The tumor was in an area of the brain that involves “logic, reasoning and judgment,” said O’Connor’s attorney, Eugene Iredale.

The foundation gave money to charities that included the City of Hope, the Alzheimer’s Association, Sharp Healthcare, Little Wishes Foundation, San Diego Hospice and the John Burton Foundation.

 

Attorney Maria Severson said O’Connor has a more than $7 million lawsuit pending in Superior Court against three people and a German bank over the sale of a Mendicino County hotel in 2005. If the lawsuit is successful, more than $2 million will be paid toward restitution, she said
