A Comment On The Navy Yard Murders

In a town where gun ownership is severely restricted and regulated, the ones to suffer the most from these restrictions and regulations are the law abiding citizens.

While in Washington, D.C. if someone has on or about their person the empty brass casing seen in the image above, they could be subject to a $1,000.00 fine plus a year in jail. All for an inert piece of brass.

Criminals by nature have total disregard for laws and will do whatever they want to achieve their goals. There is a reason that the areas of the country with the harshest restrictions on firearms are also the areas of the country with the highest report of gun crime. As noted by John Lott: With just one single exception, the attack on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.

I think the evidence speaks for itself. My heart goes out to those that suffered injury and the families of those that lost loved ones in the Navy Yard murder yesterday, but the answer is not to further restrict rights of the law abiding citizens.
