Joe Biden calls himself a liar

Other than Joe Biden’s tendency to grope random women who are not his wife in public settings

and make wildly inappropriate

and offensive comments,

his stock in trade has always been the lie. He was run out of the Democrat presidential primary in 1988 over appropriating the early life of British Labour Party leader, Neil Kinnock, as his own:

Does anybody really think that they didn’t get what we had because they didn’t have the talent or the strength or the endurance or the commitment? Of course not. It was because there was no platform upon which they could stand”

JOE BIDEN IN Sept 1987 during his first presidential campaign:

“Why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go a university? Why is it that my wife… is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? …Is it because they didn’t work hard? My ancestors who worked in the coal mines of northeast Pennsylvania and would come after 12 hours and play football for four hours? It’s because they didn’t have a platform on which to stand.”

His plagiarism is legendary.

Biden’s latest unfortunate encounter with the truth comes as he contemplates challenging Hillary Clinton’s coronation parade. If you recall, back in 2012, when Barack Obama was basking in the afterglow of the super tough decision he made to kill the man who had planned the murder of over 3000 Americans, destroyed two iconic buildings in Manhattan, and damaged the Pentagon, back in an era when the President’s operatives actually set up a website called www.gutsycall.com to fluff Obama, Joe Biden made a big deal of how tough a call it was. This is the story as Biden related it to the housebroken and stump-trained credulous reporter at ABC News:

Vice President Joe Biden confessed this weekend that he advised President Obama not to launch the mission that ultimately killed Osama bin Laden last spring.

During remarks at a Democratic congressional retreat this weekend, Biden explained that when it came time to make the final decision, he had some lingering uncertainties about whether the 9/11 mastermind was in the suspected compound in Pakistan.

When the president asked his top advisers for their final opinion on the mission, all of them were hesitant, except for the former CIA director, now Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Biden said.

“Every single person in that room hedged their bet except Leon Panetta. Leon said go. Everyone else said, 49, 51,” Biden said, as he offered the unsolicited details of the decision-making process.

“He got to me. He said, ‘Joe, what do you think?’ And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t know we had so many economists around the table.’ I said, ‘We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is, don’t go. We have to do two more things to see if he’s there,’” Biden recalled.

While the vice president did not explain what those two more things were, the next morning the president gave National Security Adviser Tom Donilon the “go” to launch the SEAL raid of the compound.

“He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency,” Biden said.

I’m not sure anyone believed that story at the time. Mitt Romney didn’t and was criticized by the left for his heterodoxy:

When Charlie Rose pointed this out to Romney this morning, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee stuck to his talking points:

ROMNEY: Well you can look at the different military options but clearly if you’ve identified where Osama bin Laden is, the United States of America is going to take action, capture him or kill him. And that was the right action to be taken, that was the right course to be taken. We haven’t heard all the different military options there were.

It seems that Romney hasn’t been paying much attention to reports on the bin Laden raid. In fact, U.S. intelligence had not “identified” bin Laden, as Romney claimed. “My worry was the level of uncertainty about whether bin Laden was even in the compound,” Gates said in an interview with 60 Minutes. “There wasn`t any direct evidence that he was there. It was all circumstantial.”

Now, Joe Biden is walking that story back. In today’s version, he was right there with BO making the decision.

Biden on Tuesday also contradicted his past recollections of the deliberations, telling the forum that while he privately supported the raid, he didn’t want to say so in front of everyone else as it risked “undercutting” his relationship with Obama if the president decided against the raid.

Biden said he only advised Obama to go ahead when the two were alone — after advising in a Cabinet meeting that there should be another pass with a surveillance drone to make sure bin Laden really was at the compound.

“As we walked out of the room and walked up the stairs, I told him my opinion that I thought he should go but to follow his own instincts,” Biden said. “I never, on a difficult issue, never say what I think finally until I go up in the Oval with him alone.”

However, Biden previously described himself as on the fence on the bin Laden raid decision.

In 2012, Biden told House Democrats he had cautioned Obama against going forward with the raid, and he said in a television interview that year that he’d advised waiting until the military could better determine whether bin Laden was truly in the compound at Abbottabad, Pakistan, but made no mention of telling Obama privately to go ahead with the mission.

In May 2011, Biden said at a Democratic fundraiser in New Hampshire that he was one of those who “hedged their bets.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, I said ‘wait another seven days for the following information,’” Biden said, but made no reference to the alleged private conversation.

Who know what Biden actually did and it doesn’t really matter because we’ve learned nothing new about Biden here other than he adheres to the George Costanza philosophy of truth: it isn’t a lie if you believe it.
