Let’s dispel the notion that we can vote for Trump because “Supreme Court”

The latest persuasive tactic of Trump supporters is to say we can not be #nevertrump because of the Supreme Court. This is usually in the form of either “or else Hillary gets to pick the Supreme Court” or “don’t you want Justice Cruz.”

First, let’s ignore all the consistent evidence that Trump will lose in an historic landslide to Clinton, and assume he does take office. Just for the sake of argument, because the chances are so low.

As for “Justice Cruz.” This is at first glance a tempting offer. If fact, 9 months ago my dream was a Perry presidency, with a Cruz appointment to the Supreme Court. Obviously he would be the ideal constitutional originalist justice that we so terribly need. The real question is, who in their right mind thinks Trump would ever nominate “L—‘” Ted? Aside from he fact that such a campaign promise from him would be illegal and nonbinding, there is the fact that any such non existent promise (or any other Trump promise) wouldn’t be worth the Trump University letterhead stationary it was written on.

So who would Trump nominate? Of course nobody knows, least of all Trump himself. Let’s look at what we DO know:

First, both mine and the average 10 year old knows more about the Supreme Court than Donald trump does. This is not hyperbole or exaggeration. During a nationally televised debate, Trump defended his approval of his liberal, radically pro-abortion sister as a potential Supreme Court nominee by saying,

Trump: Now, Ted’s been very critical, I have a sister, who is a brilliant, [crosstalk] excuse me, she’s a brilliant judge. He’s been criticizing… he’s been criticizing my sister for signing a certain bill. You know who else signed that bill? Justice Samuel Alito, a very conservative member of the Supreme Court, with my sister signed that bill. So, I think that maybe we should get a little bit of an apology from Ted, what do you think?

This profound ignorance of the Supreme Court and law in general was documented here. Also, when asked how he would choose a Supreme Court justice he said,

“Well, I’d probably appoint people that would look very seriously at her email disaster because it’s a criminal activity, and I would appoint people that would look very seriously at that to start off with,” Trump said in a phone interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

That’s right, Trump thinks that Supreme Court justices sign bills and investigate scandals. He literally does not understand the difference between the judicial, executive, and legislative branches.

So what guiding principles would trump use to choose a justice? Well, if you can find one other than #trumpfirst, let me know. This has been borne out over the course of professional, personal, and political life. He loves eminent domain, is strongly pro abortion, pro planned parenthood, pro amnesty, pro prosecution of critical people/news agencies, pro crony capitalism, pro buying of politicians, pro foreign labor, pro foreign manufacturing, pro big business bailouts, pro men in women’s restrooms, pro gay marriage, pro nationalized healthcare, pro nationalized public education, pro nationalized housing. Would anybody ever believe these core values would ever lead to the nomination of Ted Cruz???
