Hillary Clinton Says, “Yes, the Whole World Does have the Right to Immigrate to America

Do people around the world have a ‘right’ to move to the United States, as Hillary Clinton believes? It’s a bedrock belief of most conservatives that there is no such right. The U.S. sets its own immigration policy, admits whom it chooses, and foreign nationals in foreign countries have no legal or constitutional right to enter the United States.

Washington Examiner  But Hillary Clinton appears to think there is such a right, at least if a tweet from her campaign headquarters can be taken for a policy pronouncement. On Monday, the Clinton Ohio campaign tweeted Mohamed G.’s picture with Trump’s quote, “No one has the right to immigrate to this country.” The campaign added the comment: “We disagree.”

Donald Trump said, “We want people to come into our country, but they have to come in legally, through a process… No one has a right to immigrate to this country. It is the job of a responsible government to admit only those who expect to succeed and flourish here and really be proud of what they’ve done and where they came from. They have to love our country.”

In that quote was the fundamental principle: There is no right to immigrate to the United States.

The world right to immigrate to the United States does not appear in the section on immigration on Clinton’s campaign website, nor does it appear in her major pronouncements on the subject.

Truth in Media Under U.S. Code, the president does have the statutory authority to keep anyone out of the country, for any reason he thinks best. Per 8 USC §1182 Yes, the president has the authority to do exactly what Trump is describing. And by the way, this kind of thing has happened before.

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”

That’s a statement from Trump explaining his plan to prevent terror attacks on U.S. soil—ban all Muslims from entering the country. This plan has been met with a lot of support from some, and condemned by others.

Not discriminating against people’s religion being part of the constitution, well, that is true for U.S. citizens. But that’s not what Trump said. He is talking about immigrants or people visiting from other countries. So citing freedom of religion doesn’t apply here.
