CNN Anchor Suggests Trump Rhetoric to Blame For NC GOP Office Firebombing

Is this a case of blaming the victims? I’m not so sure.

The firebombing of a GOP headquarters in Orange County, North Carolina on Saturday has left many with more questions than answers.

Someone threw a bottle of flammable liquid through the front window of the building, and on the building next door, they spray painted the message: “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else.”

Brian Stelter, speaking on CNN offered this, in the aftermath:

“We have no idea who has done this. We don’t know if it’s a Republican, a Democrat, a movement. No idea. Could be some core of extremists, some sort of radical,” Stelter, a media reporter for the network, explained during a political segment on Sunday’s “CNN Newsroom.”

“But that kind of action is unacceptable,” Stelter continued. “And we need to have the temperature come down on all sides right now. Unfortunately, Donald Trump is the lead in terms of raising the temperature at this moment in time.”

Did he just suggest that Trump caused this?

I can’t even argue with him.

Donald Trump has worked up his glassy-eyed, unthinking fan base into a frenzy in recent weeks, as he has painted the very party he represents as bullies, conspiring to bring him down.

We’ll put aside the fact that the GOP pulled out all the stops to prevent conservatives from having a say against Trump at the July party convention. There is no doubt that Trump’s rhetoric is divisive and caustic.

On the other hand, however, this particular office has not retreated from Trump, and Trump banners were prominently displayed inside the office.

Hopefully, we’ll have answers soon and the perpetrator of what is nothing short of a terrorist act is caught and brought to justice.

Both sides have better than their fair share of psychopaths, willing to do dangerous and irrational acts, in service to their ideological “cause.”

This has to stop.
