Highlights in lowlife, notable excerpts from leaked Clinton-Podesta Emails

I had some trouble deciding how to order these, I decided most absurd first would be best. So starting off we have Hillary Clinton complaining that politics has needlessly impoverished her.

“SECRETARY CLINTON: Yeah. Well, you know what Bob Rubin said about that. He said, you know, when he came to Washington, he had a fortune. And when he left Washington, he had a small — MR. BLANKFEIN: That’s how you have a small fortune, is you go to Washington. SECRETARY CLINTON: You go to Washington. Right. But, you know, part of the problem with the political situation, too, is that there is such a bias against people who have led successful and/or complicated lives. You know, the divestment of assets, the stripping of all kinds of positions, the sale of stocks. It just becomes very onerous and unnecessary.” [Goldman Sachs Builders And Innovators Summit, 10/29/13]

This is spectacular, seeing as the Clinton’s managed gain eighteen and a half million dollars in book deal advances(1,2) after leaving the White House and drew another sixteen million in from a government program to make sure ex presidents weren’t destitute. (3) Thirty Four Million ,  Somewhere there is a tiny violin playing sad music because of their sacrifice in service to this country.

Next up, you have to wonder did Obama teach her the pen and phone trick, or did he learn it from the Clintons ?

Circling back around on guns as a follow up to the Friday morning discussion: the Today show has indicated they definitely plan to ask bout guns, and so to have the discussion be more of a news event than her previous times discussing guns, we are going to background reporters tonight on a few of the specific proposals she would support as President – universal background checks of course, but also closing the gun show loophole by executive order and imposing manufacturer liability

Either way as someone who believes in the constitution and that the procedures put in place for changing it are there for a reason, I find this at best chilling.  But when you think about it this would be but one of many pen and phone moments for Clinton.

As this hit parade keeps marching along, next we have her promoting her dream for the hemisphere

*Hillary Clinton Said Her Dream Is A Hemispheric Common Market, With Open Trade And Open Markets. *“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere.” [05162013 Remarks to Banco Itau.doc, p. 28]

No surprise that she admires Angela Merkel so much. What is surprising is how little she has been able to learn from Europe’s failure. I can only hope that as a country we aren’t subjected to that same lesson. I politically dislike Democrats but I have no wish to see them attacked by mobs the way CDU politicians are in Germany (4).

Clinton also takes a shot at acknowledging she is out of touch with most Americans and demonstrates she doesn’t even have a clue how far out of touch she is.

*Hillary Clinton: “I’m Kind Of Far Removed” From The Struggles Of The Middle Class “Because The Life I’ve Lived And The Economic, You Know, Fortunes That My Husband And I Now Enjoy.” *“And I am not taking a position on any policy, but I do think there is a growing sense of anxiety and even anger in the country over the feeling that the game is rigged. And I never had that feeling when I was growing up. Never. I mean, were there really rich people, of course there were. My father loved to complain about big business and big government, but we had a solid middle class upbringing. We had good public schools. We had accessible health care. We had our little, you know, one-family house that, you know, he saved up his money, didn’t believe in mortgages. So I lived that. And now, obviously, I’m kind of far removed because the life I’ve lived and the economic, you know, fortunes that my husband and I now enjoy, but I haven’t forgotten it.” [Hillary Clinton Remarks at Goldman-Black Rock, 2/4/14]

Yep I am going to take a guess that most people today can’t relate to buying a house with cash. Matter of fact I think i’ll go out on a limb and say far too many people have given up on the idea of buying a house. That’s something the impoverished Mrs. Clinton might want to think about when she complains about her financial sacrifices.

That’s it for the Watercooler today. As always it’s an open thread
