With the Republican Ship Sinking, There’s Never Been a Better Time to Go 3rd Party

If you didn’t believe in – or even like – Trump, but were voting for him anyway due to your rightful dislike for Hillary, I can now safely tell you something many of you in the Republican camp have been telling me.

You’re wasting your vote.

At this point, a Trump presidency isn’t likely to happen, especially now that so many Republicans are jumping ship after his latest comments. What’s more, even FiveThirtyEight has predicted that Trump has about a 75% chance of losing. In short, the Republican ship is sinking, and unless Trump steps aside and someone worth voting for takes his place, you’re all going to sink with it unless you abandon ship.

But all hope is not lost. There are other options you can go for, and ones that are far better leaders. One of those is Evan McMullin, the independent who I’ve said repeatedly may be the last Republican actually running, though he isn’t one. He’s been described by The Federalist as the new “Ted Cruz,” but I tend to see McMullin as his own man.

McMullin is an ex-CIA operative with security, and state experience. His realistic approach to foreign and domestic affairs is something of a breath of fresh air during an election season that has been a circus of reality TV issues. Recently, he just picked a running mate in Mindy Finn, a young mother and tech industry wizard who has worked on various Republican campaigns, and major social networks. This has earned her some serious recognition from tech publications.

They’re definitely a fresh face in the political world, but this is more of a feature for McMullin and Finn than it is a bug. They’re a duo practically form fitted for a nation in the new age of technology, and a people more desiring of freedoms. I’d venture to say that McMullin and Finn are the first pebbles in an avalanche of a new kind of right wing leadership.

As it stands, they are on the ballot in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina, Utah, and Virginia.

You can also write them in if you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and West Virginia.

There’s also this election’s dark horse, Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson.

Johnson has done enough to both attract, and repulse would be Republican voters throughout his campaign. Ron Paul, a libertarian star, has stated that he can’t endorse Johnson because he’s not really a libertarian. I can’t disagree.

Still, regardless of Johnson’s flubs, he’s still a much better leader than Trump or Hillary. In terms of returning  to a freedom oriented nation, he’s the best candidate running. Furthermore, any campaign mistakes he’s made, he’s openly admitted to them, and worked to fix it. This is something you typically see in a politician, especially nowadays. This gives one hope that we could have a leader that actually listens to the people.

Johnson is pro-gun, and while he’s also pro-choice, he doesn’t want federal funding to go toward it in any way, and would love to make abortion a states rights issue, giving states the ability to make it illegal should their populace choose to do so. He’s preferred by the military, and has done serious damage to the polls in various states.

If you want to vote strategically, giving Gary Johnson your support will keep him over 7% in the polls, thus qualifying the Libertarian party for federal campaign funding in 2020. By that time, we may get a candidate that more people would feel absolutely ecstatic to vote for from the Libertarian party, at which point we’ll also get out of the 2 party system rut we’ve been cruising in for too long.

Remember, you don’t have to vote Republican, and at this point, there’s almost no reason to. Try a third party.
