ACLU, Human Rights Groups Already Prepared to Make President Trump’s Life Hell

(Before It's News)

This was expected, actually.

Champions of the downtrodden fringe, the ACLU, have already got a bead on Trump and set phasers to stun.

“These proposals are not simply un-American and wrong-headed, they are unlawful and unconstitutional,” Anthony Romero, executive director of the ACLU, said in a statement Wednesday. “They violate the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eight and Fourteenth Amendments. If you do not reverse course and instead endeavor to make these campaign promises a reality, you will have to contend with the full firepower of the ACLU at every step.”

Hilarious. The man isn’t even in office yet, and I’m sure what they’ll find is that his actual beliefs are much more in line with their own than any other “Republican” who could have taken the top spot.

Specifically, they are up in arms over his threat of mass deportation of illegal immigrants.

Those of us who have actually been paying attention know that there’s no threat of that happening.

The full list:

The ACLU specifically called out Trump’s promises to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants, ban Muslims from entering the country, surveil Muslim communities, punish women for getting abortions, reauthorize waterboarding and other forms of torture and change the country’s libel laws.

If Trump pursues any of those policies, Romero said, the ACLU’s lawyers, activists, volunteers and supporters “are ready to fight.”

“One thing is certain: we will be eternally vigilant every single day of your presidency and when you leave the Oval Office, we will do the same with your successor,” Romero said.

That’s a nice bit of political theater, but the fears are unwarranted. Trump has changed his mind on so many of his platform issues that none of them should be taken seriously, either by his supporters or the kooks and radicals of the ACLU.

Human rights organizations, like Amnesty International USA and Human Rights Watch were also ready to roll with their hand-wringing and finger wagging.

“Now that he has secured victory, President-elect Trump should move from the headline-grabbing rhetoric of hatred and govern with respect for all who live in the United States,” Kenneth Roth, executive director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. “He found a path to the White House through a campaign marked by misogyny, racism and xenophobia, but that’s not a route to successful governance. President-elect Trump should commit to leading the U.S. in a manner that fully respects and promotes human rights for everyone.”

And while I don’t disagree with them that his campaign was as awful as they said and an endorsement of every ugly, despicable human failing imaginable, I have to point out that the very reason we’re in this predicament is because after eight years of Obama and Democrats talking down to us, telling us what awful people we were, and then exerting breathtaking governmental overreach to impose their own, personal worldview on our lives, people got sick of it. They pushed back so hard that they ended up in the realm of every horrid thing we’d been accused of.

Maybe we should look at the deeper meaning to this immediate jump to hold Trump over the fire, when he doesn’t even take office until January.

The group’s homepage solicited donations with a large image of Trump’s face, telling visitors, “We need you to stand with us now.”

Oh.
