White-tailed Deer season opens Saturday, Nov. 5 in both the North and South Zones. Special late seasons will begin Jan. 2 in the North Zone and Jan. 16 in the South Zone.

Deer Forecast Video

We expect a record year for white-tailed deer, and the forecast is excellent. All of the state had a wet spring, creating a white-tailed deer population estimated at 4 million in Texas. The wet, mild weather these past couple of years has allowed the deer to eat well, and there are big bucks to be found.

What’s New?

  • An additional 14 Panhandle counties were added to the general season
  • There are additional “doe days” in 26 East Texas counties
  • “Special Late Antlerless and Spike-Buck Season” replaced with a “Special Late Season” for antlerless deer and “unbranched antlered bucks”
  • New CWD Zones, Deer Movement Rules

If you need a place to hunt, check out the more than 1 million acres of Public Hunting Land available to you with a $48 Annual Public Hunting permit. This is going to be a stunning year for deer hunting, don’t miss out.
