16 US Servicemen Killed, 27 Injured during Fighting near Mosul

Sixteen US servicemen were killed and 27 more injured in the ongoing operation of liberating the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIL militants, a military-diplomatic source in Moscow said.

“Over the first two weeks of the ground military operation in Mosul, 16 US servicemen were killed and another 27 were injured. Most instances of death and injuries of servicemen represent the result of hitting a landmine, or coming under artillery or mortar shelling attacks,” the source said, TASS reported. .

There were also cases when servicemen died as a result of weak coordination of actions between US aviation and special forces units.

“For instance, two special forces members died in the airstrike delivered at Mosul’s outskirts by B-52H US aircraft,” the source noted.

He stressed that over the two weeks since the start of the military operation, the US-led coalition failed to achieve any considerable success in Mosul.

“Liberation of Mosul is considered by outgoing Democrats in the White House as a trump card in pre-election political games, where the victory of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is at stake. That’s why senators and influential politicians have to raise stakes and lobby decisions to step up military actions in Mosul, not taking into account big losses among US servicemen,” the source concluded.

The ground military operation on liberating Mosul from ISIL was launched on October 17. Apart from Iraqi government forces, Kurdish forces and popular forces participate in the operation. Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, has been controlled by ISIL for over two years

Al-Ameri pointed to Hashd al-Shaabi’s military gains in the Western part of Mosul city, and said, “Hashd al-Shaabi’s achievements in Western Mosul have also facilitated the advances of Iraq’s joint military forces in the city’s Eastern parts.”

100 Beheaded Bodies Discovered in Mass Grave near Mosul

A mass grave containing 100 decapitated bodies was discovered inside a school South of the ISIL-held city of Mosul, the Iraqi military said.

Iraqi soldiers came across the grave in the School of Agriculture in the town of Hammam al-Alil that was recaptured from ISIL terrorists, spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Military Command Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool said in a statement, RT reported.

Aleppo: Army Keeps Up Momentum of Victories, Captures Three More Districts

Three more key districts in the Southern parts of Aleppo city fell into the hands of the Syrian army and popular forces after they captured Housing Project 1070 and several hills in the Southwestern parts of the flashpoint city.

“The Southern districts of al-Rashedeen 4 and 5 as well as al-Hikmah School have fallen militarily into the hands of the army soldiers,” the sources said.

“Liberation of Housing Project 1070 and the hills of Tal al-Rakham and Tal Mo’ata enabled the Syrian army to expand its security ring around Aleppo Military Academy Buildings, while terrorists’ positions in al-Rashedeen 4 and 5 as well as al-Hikmah School are under the direct fire of the army,” they added.

The tall buildings of Housing Project 1070 were used as watchposts by the militants to monitor army movements and arrange their attacks on adjacent neighborhoods, including their recent attack on Aleppo Military Academy Buildings.

Military sources said earlier today that Syrian Army soldiers and their popular allies fortified their positions in the newly-captured Housing Project 1070 and blocked Jeish al-Fatah terrorists’ supply line from this district to the Southern neighborhoods of Aleppo.

“The pro-government forces continued to advance in the nearby areas of Housing Project 1070 and cut off terrorists’ supply road to al-Rashedeen and al-Hikmah school,” the sources said.

“A large number of Jeish al-Fatah terrorists were killed or wounded and their military vehicles were destroyed in army’s advances,” they added.

“The Syrian fighter jets, for their part, carried out several combat sorties over Jeish al-Fatah’s positions in Housing Project 1070, the towns of Khan Touman and al-Zerbeh,” the sources went on to say.

Reports said also earlier today that Syrian Army soldiers and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters inflicted major casualties on Jeish al-Fatah terrorist coalition and drove them out of the entire area of Housing Project 1070.

“The pro-government forces that started a joint military operation to stretch the security ring in the Western districts of Aleppo city beat back Jeish al-Fatah terrorists from the remaining building blocks of Housing Project 1070,” the sources said.

“A large number of Takfiri terrorists were killed and wounded in the pro-government forces’ operation,” they added.

“With the liberation of Housing Project 1070 and Tal (Hill) Mo’ata, one of the main movement and supply roads of the terrorists used by them to send aid cargos to their comrades in Southeastern Aleppo was cut off,” the sources went on to say.
