One of the main tenets of Donald Trump’s closing argument made during the last few weeks of the campaign was his pledge to “Drain the Swamp.”
Washington is broken because of the people who make the decisions within our government. Millions of Americans voted to give the GOP control of all three branches of government because Donald Trump promised to get rid of the corruption that is dragging us down.
A key part of this plan is the implementation of term limits for Congressmen and Senators. The logic behind it is simple: if the people running government are responsible for its problems, then it makes sense to limit the amount of time they can be in office.
So you can imagine my surprise to hear that Mitch McConnell is refusing to put term limit legislation up for a vote in the Senate…
Just two days ago, I wrote to you and said that Mitch McConnell deserves a chance. By declaring that term limit legislation was dead on arrival in the US Senate, that chance has expired. He has been in the Senate for more than 30 years. Are we really supposed to believe that after all this time, he has new ideas to bring to the table?
I truly, in my heart of hearts, believe that the only way for us to move forward as a country is to ditch those who have been holding us back.
Donald Trump dispatched both the Republican and Democratic establishments. He destroyed the Bush and Clinton dynasties in a year and a hald. Yet the very party leaders who vehemently opposed and undermined his candidacy now think they will get to decide whether his agenda is carried out.
I know a lot of people reading this may disagree. And that is fine.
But as of right now, Paul Ryan does not have sufficient support in the House of Representatives to retain the Speakership.
Think about that for a second. The Republican Party wins control of the entirety of the US Government and the sitting-Speaker of the House does not even have enough support within his own party to retain his office.
Paul Ryan came out against the wall. He opposes strict enforcement of our immigration laws. He supports the very lopsided trade deals that the American people are so passionately against. He has proven willing to compromise on issues like your gun rights.
Speaker Ryan may have won his home district and Mitch McConnell may have won his home state two years ago, but the electorate that gave Donald Trump the Presidency does not support their RINO agenda. We can either spend the next month in a heated leadership fight, or we can admit that it is time to move on and get to work making America great again.
If Paul Ryan does not have the sufficient votes to be re-elected as Speaker of the House and Mitch McConnell is refusing to implement the term limits that the America people have demanded, then they need to be removed and replaced. Period.
