President Obama pardoned his last turkeys this afternoon. The death row pardon was bestowed upon an Iowan named Tot, who was named the National Thanksgiving Turkey, and his fellow hatchling, Tater.
According to the White House, both Tater and Tot are reportedly being sent to Virginia Tech. (Majors are undeclared at this time.)
Watch the pardon here:
This was President Obama’s eighth and final turkey pardoning. Last year President Obama pardoned twin turkeys, Honest and Abe.
The annual turkey pardoning is a longstanding White House tradition dating back to 1947 and President Harry Truman.
