Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Tackling Last Resistance of Terrorists in Eastern Aleppo

The Syrian army has completed the liberation of the Eastern neighborhoods of the city of Aleppo, the Russian Reconciliation Center announced.

The Russian center also added that the government troops were fighting against the remaining radical terrorists in Eastern Aleppo.

The Syrian army troops also continued their advances in other key provinces across Syria.

Aleppo

Liberation of the Eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city has been completed, the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria announced, adding Syrian government forces were tackling separate pockets of militants’ resistance.

“The operation by the Syrian Army aimed at liberating the militant-controlled neighborhoods of Eastern Aleppo has been completed,” the Russian center said.

“The Syrian government forces continue to hit and destroy isolated pockets of militant resistance,” the Center added.

According to the latest figures from the Russian Defense ministry, only 2 percent of Aleppo is still controlled by a few militants.

Reports said earlier on Saturday that the terrorist groups’ artillery units shelled heavily al-Ramouseh corridor in Southern part of Aleppo city regardless of ceasefire, blocking once again exit of remaining militants and their families from the city.

Terrorists violated ceasefire and shelled al-Ramouseh corridor through which militants and their families were leaving the Eastern neighborhoods of the city.

Terrorist snipers also targeted al-Ramouseh corridor.

Green buses that were in al-Ramouseh left the scene after terrorists targeted the corridor and blocked evacuation of militants.

Syrian TV for its part confirmed violation of ceasefire by terrorist and reported that the militant groups have captured a number of civilians.

Based on reports, just before shelling of al-Ramouseh corridor by terrorist groups over 150 vehicles left militant-held neighborhoods in Aleppo city to the Southwestern countryside of the city via al-Ramouseh corridor.

In the meantime, more groups of militants left Aleppo’s Eastern districts with their families.

3,475 men, 3,137 women, 2,359 children and 105 wounded have left Aleppo.

According to more reports, the terrorist groups have handed kidnapped and missed people over to the Syrian army in militant-held neighborhoods and in return relevant government officials hand captured terrorists over to their groups.

Meantime, an informed source close to the Syrian government said Damascus will allow the remaining terrorists to leave Eastern Aleppo city only when the injured people are transferred from the besieged towns of Fua’a and Kafraya in Idlib province.

The evacuation of the militants from Aleppo had been suspended after the terrorist groups violated the ceasefire and started firing at civilians who were being evacuated through al-Ramouseh corridor.

“Resuming the evacuation of the terrorists from Eastern Aleppo now depends on the exit of the injured people from Kafraya and Fua’a towns,” a source close to the Syrian government said.

According to the agreements between the Syrian authorities and the terrorist groups, the terrorists had agreed to allow a group of residents of Fua’a and Kafraya who are in emergency conditions to leave the two towns, but terrorists have not allowed the buses and ambulances to get out of either of the towns.

Tens of buses and ambulances have been dispatched to the two towns but al-Nusra Front (recently changed its name to Fatah al-Sham Front) terrorists prevented the buses from entering the two towns and did not allow the civilians to get out of there.

The Syrian authorities and terrorist groups stationed in the Eastern parts of Aleppo reached an agreement on December 15 to evacuate militants from the region in return for relocating thousands of besieged civilians from Fua’a and Kafraya in Idlib to government-ruled territories.

Tens of ambulances and Green Buses arrived at militant-held territories on Thursday morning to evacuate militant groups and their families from Aleppo.

Homs

A senior ISIL commander was killed in a strike by the Syrian warplanes on the terrorist group’s positions near the ancient city of Palmyra in the Syrian province of Homs, reports said.

RT’s Arabic service reported that Omar As’ad, nom de guerre Abu Kahl, who was among the ISIL’s most senior commanders in Homs province, was killed in an airstrike on his hideout in the city of al-Sukhnah in Eastern Homs Province.

Syrian and Russian warplanes have resumed intensive aerial operations on ISIL positions in the Eastern part of Homs province, after the terror group recaptured the city of Palmyra almost a week ago, which have been liberated earlier in the year.

The killing of the ISIL commander came as the Syrian army launched massive military operations against the ISIL terrorists in the surrounding areas of T4 airbase, and managed to take back a village and a number of regions after imposing heavy defeat on the terrorists.

The government troops engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists in al-Sharifeh to the West of T4 air base in Eastern Homs which resulted in capturing the strategic village and leaving a number of the ISIL terrorists dead and injured as well as destroying their military equipment.

The Syrian army troops also managed to take control of al-Kaziyeh intersection in al-Quaryatayn city in Homs province and hence open the road linking al-Quaryatayn to T4 airbase.

The government troops also destroyed 10 military vehicles and three tanks of the terrorists in their attacks on al-Kaziyeh intersection.

The Syrian and Russian fighter jets also heavily pounded the ISIL’s military positions in Palmyra; al-Ameriyeh district in the Northern part of the city and al-Savameh in its Eastern part, killing a number of the terrorists.

Meantime, the ISIL’s military positions in al-Dawa district in Western Palmyra came under several air raids.

Dara’a-Quneitra

A Syrian army unit, backed up by the popular forces, killed a number of Fatah al-Sham Front (formerly known as the al-Nusra Front) terrorists after repelling their attack on army positions in the Southwestern province of Quneitra.

According to local reports, an army unit clashed with a group of terrorists who attacked a military position in the surrounding areas of Khan Arnaba in Quneitra Province, killing at least nine militants and destroying their weapons and munitions.

Another army unit targeted with artillery fire the hideouts and fortifications of terrorists on Ofania village, killing and injuring a number of terrorists.

The Syrian army also carried out military operations against the Israeli-linked terrorist organizations in Dara’a al-Balad area in Dara’a province

The army operations destroyed terrorists’ positions and eliminated a number of them in al-Sad Road neighborhood and in the Western part of al-Nazihin Camp.

The Syrian army also carried out military operations to destroy the gatherings and fortified positions of Fatah al-Sham terrorist group in the Eastern part of Dara’a Province.

The Army units destroyed a command center with all the terrorists inside West of the Said bridge and a rocket launcher in al-Nu’aimeh town in Dara’a Eastern countryside.

Lattakia

The Syrian army’s artillery units pounded the military positions of al-Nusra Front (recently changed name to Fatah al-Sham Front) near the village of al-Yamama in the Northern part of Lattakia province on Saturday, informed military sources disclosed.

“The artillery shelling resulted in the destruction of the terrorists’ military vehicles as well as death and injury of a number of terrorists in the vicinity of al-Yamama village,” a military source said.

The Syrian army units, meantime, killed members of a terrorist group and destroyed their weapons in the surrounding areas of Borj al-Hayat village in Northern Lattakia, killing and wounding at least 15 militants.

Iraq: Another ISIL Financial Chief Flees Mosul with Important Documents

A local source in Nineveh province disclosed that ISIL’s financial chief has escaped the city of Mosul with important financial documents and a list of names of the terrorist group’s commanders to become the third commander in charge of the terrorist group’s financial affairs who disappears in less than two months.

“Abu Qatadeh al-Qahtani, a senior official in charge of ISIL’s financial affairs has left Mosul for an unknown destination while taking the terrorist group’s important financial documents with himself,” the Arabic-language media quoted the local source as saying.

He said that Abu Qatadeh has had access to all the documents of ISIL’s financial transactions with companies and also the names of ISIL commanders in Iraq and Syria and those families who are being paid by the ISIL.

The source reiterated that the escape of the ISIL’s financial chief has struck a heavy blow to the ISIL.

In mid-November, another ISIL chief named Abu Hafas al-Halabi escaped the city of Mosul with millions of dollars to become the second commander in charge of the terrorist group’s financial affairs who disappears with huge sums of cash in just one month.

Also in early August, another top ISIL member in charge of the terror group’s financial resources in Mosul reportedly stole a sizable amount of money and fled along with a number of militants in early August.

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official from Mosul said in a statement that ‘ISIL’s Wali of Baitul-Mal’ in Mosul along with three other militants fled the state to an unknown location after they took out a large amount of money and other valuable archaeological pieces from the group’s treasury known as Baitul-Mal, BasNews reported on August 3.

The ISIL later executed six guards of its treasury building on charge of facilitating the robbery, the statement added

The revelations came as ISIL’s “coin master” was killed after a roadside bomb detonated in the Northern Iraqi city of Mosul in June, 2015.

“ISIL Finance Minister Mohammed Zaalan al-Afari was killed in a booby trap ambush on the Gayara-Mosul road after he took part in the opening of a women’s prison for those not committed to sexual jihad,” Saeed Mamuzini, a media officer of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) 17th branch in Mosul, said according to the Kurdish-language Rudaw website in late June 2015.

Afari was a former Iraqi army officer who joined the Takfiri ranks in 2004 and allegedly had close ties with ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and the slain al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

“Alongside Afari four other militants were killed by the booby trap,” said Mamuzini, adding that the Mosul Independent Youth group have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Afari himself had replaced another ISIL finance minister in Mosul who had been captured by Iraqi security forces in January 2014. The Iraqi security forces arrested Abu Safa Al-Damashqi, the finance minister of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, along with four other militants in the Al-Ramadi city in Al-Anbar province in January 2014, Al-Masleh news website quoted a high-ranking Iraqi official in Al-Anbar as saying.
