Jason Chaffetz Confirms His Investigation Into Hillary Clinton Is Not Over

Whether or not Donald Trump is inclined to continue the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and the endemic corruption of the Clinton Foundation, one thing is for certain, Congress is not ready to let go.

Via The Hill:

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) says Hillary Clinton’s actions as secretary of State have raised too many red flags for Congress to stop investigating her just because she lost the presidential election.

“We can’t just simply let this go,” Chaffetz told host Martha MacCallum on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” Wednesday.

“If the president or president-elect wants to pardon Secretary Hillary Clinton for the good of the nation, that is their option,” Chaffetz added. “But I have a duty and an obligation to actually fix the problems that were made with Hillary Clinton.”

This is a reiteration of the position Chaffetz expressed the day after the election:

“It would be totally remiss of us to dismiss [the email investigation] because she’s not going to be president,” the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman said, according to The Washington Post.

“I still have a duty and obligation to get to the truth about one of the largest breaches of security at the State Department,” Chaffetz said. “Tens of thousands of documents still have not been turned over to Congress.”

Chaffetz really has no choice but to pursue his investigation. If he’d dropped it he would’ve been confronted by Democrats claiming that his investigation was a partisan attack from the beginning. He’s going to be attacked now for not letting the poor old geezer have a moment’s rest but at least he has a defensible position. It will also be interesting to see what seeps out of State after a new Secretary is installed who has no vested interest in defending Hillary. One can only hope that the actions of the Justice Department and the FBI draw some well deserved scrutiny, too.
