The Media and Democrats Freak Out When They Figure Out Trump Will Fill 103 Judicial Vacancies

It’s Monday and the media and the Left (but I repeat myself) have found a new thread to worry in their full-scale freak out over the impending Trump presidency combined with a Republican majority in Congress.

That is they’ve come to realize that Donald Trump will have a potentially transformative 103 judicial vacancies to fill, almost double that of the 54 open seats President Obama had to fill when entering the White House.

Of course, this is all the Republican’s fault. No, really, it actually is and for good reason.

Since the Republican’s gained control of the Senate in 2015 confirmations slowed to a near halt. The Democrats are out with their fingers wagging and people like Senator Patrick Leahy are saying things like what the Republican’s are doing is “the most outrageous act of obstruction and irresponsibility.”

This from the party who ended the filibuster on presidential appointments.

However, the Democrats are either being stupid or lying when they act like it isn’t in the opposition party’s purview to obstruct appointments of an outgoing president.

For the party who pronounces — incorrectly — at every opportunity that we are a democracy, it’s rather amusing that they are opposed to the most democratic branch of our government doing what it ought. That is, representing their local constituencies who have voted out over 900 Democrats from various government seats during President Obama’s tenure.

The left has increasingly relied upon the judiciary to get things done when the legislature or the American people have moved too slowly. And now the system of activist judges they’ve worked to create could now be set against them.

The result is a multitude of openings throughout the federal circuit and district courts that will allow the new Republican president to quickly make a wide array of lifetime appointments.

State gun control laws, abortion restrictions, voter laws, anti-discrimination measures and immigrant issues are all matters that are increasingly heard by federal judges and will be influenced by the new composition of the courts. Trump has vowed to choose ideologues in the mold of the late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative icon — a prospect that has activists on the right giddy.

Of course, the hand rubbing Democrats would be doing if in the same position would likely be met by a glad-handing press.

Conservatives shouldn’t get their hopes up too high on this topic either.

Donald Trump, who has very few ties to traditional conservatism, could just as well appoint judges who could erode further the same issues the Democrats are concerned over, including 2nd amendment protections, pro-life legislation, and religious liberty cases.

While the Trump campaign released a list of possible Supreme Court nominees to court conservatives earlier in 2016, Donald Trump has also floated the fact that he believes his own sister — who is more in line with Ruth Bader Ginsberg than anything resembling Antonin Scalia — would be great on the Supreme Court.

While it’s difficult to make direct comparisons when it comes to judicial appointments, the Senate has confirmed more judges in Obama’s eight years in office than it did during George W. Bush’s preceding two terms at 329 to 326, respectively.

The fact is, that Donald Trump will have such a high number of judges to appoint says more about the Democrats failure than it does a reflection on Republicans.

The Republicans are doing what they ought and standing athwart Obama and the Democrats yelling “Stop.” While the Democrats are once again not accepting the fact that this situation is wholly of their own making.
