Brexit and Cornwall: European Union, Council of Europe or both?

 Some new information has come to light concerning the UK and its leaving of the EU. In a response to a member of his constituency regarding the Cornish minority status, the Conservative MP Scott Mann stated:

“It is early days in the process of leaving the EU, but the continuation of national minority status will no doubt be discussed between Cornwall’s MPs and the Government to see if it will remain in place.”

Glancing quickly you may see no problems here, glance again you’ll realise that the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorites is nothing to do with the EU. The FCPNM is rather instead connected with the Council of Europe, which Britain joined in 1949. The concern now on the minds of people is wether its proposed that with Brexit the UK will also leave the CoE, or on the other hand, are our MPs genuinely that stupid or ignorant to realise that the EU is not connected to the FCPNM? The Cornish will still be a protected minority people even if we leave the EU.

Another statement repeated is the information that the FCPNM does not relate to housing or development policy, which of course it does oherwise assimilation would be legal, which is what is occuring in Cornwall, Westminster is breaking the FCPNM. The excuse that “housing growth in Cornwall is a good thing”, is wrong as 5 decades of non-stop housing growth has proven. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if a job was created once in a while, if the roads here weren’t originally created as 18th century lanes, and if we could afford funding a growing population. But fear not, Government and Cornwall’s MPs are going to discuss the implications of Brexit and the FCPNM for Cornwall, our MPs regularly proving or admitting that they’re more concerned with their parties policies than their constituencies.
