National Security Adviser, Former CIA Director Splits From Trump Transition Team

Well, at least he’s not going away mad. He’s just going away.

James Woolsey is a former CIA director who has been working with Trump’s transition team as a national security adviser. On Thursday, he announced that he would be leaving Trump’s team.

A spokesman for James Woolsey said in a statement Thursday that “Effective immediately, Ambassador Woolsey is no longer a Senior Advisor to President-Elect Trump or the Transition. He wishes the President-Elect and his Administration great success in their time in office.”

Appearing on CNN, said he didn’t want to “fly under false colors,” and that he hadn’t been advising Trump lately, so he felt it best that he step away from the team, lest anyone interviewing him get the impression that he’s still operating as an adviser.

He stressed that he still supports Trump and wishes him well.

People close to Woolsey told the Washington Post that he had been excluded from intelligence discussions in recent weeks with Trump and his incoming top national security adviser retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

Sources said that he has become uncomfortable lending his name to the transition without being included, especially in light of reports that Trump is looking to reshape the country’s intelligence agencies — a report Trump’s incoming press secretary denied.

Woolsey denied there were tensions between Trump and himself, in regards to the Russian hacking allegations, but that he’d only met with Trump in person a few times since joining the team in October.

I guess if you’re not being utilized, the best thing to do is to roll on.
