The Battle Is Not Yours

Sometimes I’m forced to step back and just… breathe.

We are still feeling the repercussions of the 2016 election, and rather than things setting themselves right and returning to some form of normalcy, where one side of the political aisle yells at the other, each convinced of the inherent “rightness” of their position, we see a nation split even more than before.

We are split along party lines. We are split along lines of race.

A new age of nasty feminism, that has become combative in its drive to destroy men and unborn children, alike, is flooding our streets in the form of marches and really dumb gimmicks.

Even the Republican party is split between those who hold to party loyalty and those who cling to conservative ideology.

And then, there are those who just want it all to burn.

It has become harder and harder to just stand on principle.

My own position has been well-documented here, on various issues. I have some who agree, and many more who do not.

I’ve been called “self-righteous.” I’ve been called a RiNO (a cute term that used to mean something, but given those who are wielding it most often now, it has lost its intent). I’ve been compared to heretics and of course, a “Hillary supporter.”

I have people in the community who are aware of my work here with RedState stop me to either congratulate me on getting something right, or harangue me for getting something wrong.

Yesterday, I ran into a gentleman I used to work with, some time ago.

He asked me, “So this past election, did everything go the way you’d wanted?”

And no, he’s not a regular reader, or he would know the answer to that, already.

Pretty much nothing I wanted happened through this election. From losing Pat McCrory as governor of North Carolina and seeing the governorship fall back into Democrat hands, to seeing a liberal, Manhattan bully become the GOP nominee for president.

His actually winning seems like a waking nightmare to me (although it would be just as horrific to have a Hillary presidency – there was no way to win, here).

I’m not swayed by a handful of good decisions or Cabinet picks. We’re just getting started and his greatest influences are still coming from big government liberals.

With all that, and feeling so embattled it is really important to be able to focus on the eternal truths.

Times like this, when it seems like the whole world is ripping apart, I need reminding that it’s not my job to hold the pieces together.

As a child of God, my only task is to stand on the ground given me by my Lord, and to just be washed in His truth.

The Amplified Bible gives a wonderful version of Philippians 4:13:

“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”

How can I say it any better?

I am compelled to continue to speak my piece, for as long as I have a forum.

I don’t promise you’ll agree, at all times. That’s just not how life works.

I do hope, however, that we will all strive to find the common ground, where possible, and when things are weighing on you heavily, or you find yourself burdened with disappointment, know that the battle is not yours.
