Trump Doesn’t Believe Gorsuch Would Refer To His Comments As “Disheartening,” “Demoralizing”

(Before It's News)

On Wednesday, Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch expressed his concerns over statements made by President Trump, which were disparaging towards federal judges.

Trump tweeted out several remarks over the last week that targeted the judges involved in temporarily halting, then those later involved in the hearing regarding his travel ban.

It would seem that judges have joined the ranks of the press, Democrats, Republicans, and pretty much everybody else in the world, except his immediate family and Vladimir Putin, in that they’re apparently not reliable or competent, either in our president’s view.

When Judge Gorsuch was asked his opinion of Trump’s comments, during a closed door meeting with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), he was less than enthused.

Blumenthal said Wednesday that Gorsuch called Trump’s tweets attacking federal judges “disheartening” and “demoralizing.”

In a later statement, Blumenthal urged Gorsuch to make his concerns public.

“Behind closed doors, Judge Gorsuch expressed disappointment with President Trump’s attacks on the judiciary, but a Supreme Court Justice must prove that he has the courage and independence to stand up to a President in public,” Blumenthal said.

“I asked Judge Gorsuch to make that statement publicly, and he declined.”

A spokesman for Gorsuch later confirmed to CNN that the judge used the terms “disheartening” and “demoralizing” to describe Trump’s tweets during his meeting with the Blumenthal.

Our Patterico covered this development last night, actually.

For most, Judge Gorsuch’s comments should be seen as an encouragement. This signals that he will be beholden to none but the rule of law. That’s exactly what we want – an impartial, nonpartisan arbiter of the law.

For Trump and his minions, however, they apparently thought the nomination of Gorsuch was akin to pocketing a bit of security in the Supreme Court.

On Wednesday evening, Laura Ingraham, dropping even the most thread-bare semblance of being a conservative American, or just a sane and rational person, tweeted out her “concerns” about a judge who would speak honestly, with no sugar coating about her liege.

“Know better”? If I were Judges Pryor and Hardiman, I would be really offended this morning to hear myself being referred to as what amounts to an obedient lackey, expected to remain either dutifully silent or properly fawning over the new king.

Lady, you’re crazy. We just had an election, not a coronation.

Expectedly, Trump took to Twitter in the early morning hours to go after Blumenthal.

Well, you didn’t serve in Vietnam either, Mr. President. Your daddy got you four or five deferments because of a sore foot.

Just saying.

Maybe this is all grand theater, in order to make Gorsuch more appealing when the time comes for his up-or-down vote.

But maybe it’s not, and this is just the kind of bold character we need on the Supreme Court.

We may never know for sure exactly what went on in the meeting between Blumenthal and Judge Gorsuch, but as the day goes on, don’t be surprised if you see a flood of attacks against them both on social media.

That’s just the world we live in, now.
