Attorneys for Alex Jones Tell Judge He’s Not Really Crazy, Only Playing a Character

Crackpot radio host Alex Jones (who our President thinks has a great reputation) is embroiled in a custody battle with his ex-wife Kelly Jones over their three children. The nature of his on-air persona is something the jury must consider. Kelly Jones says Alex is unstable but his lawyers say Alex is only playing a character on the radio.

A Texas jury will decide if Infowars’ Alex Jones on-air persona makes him unfit to have custody of his three children with ex-wife Kelly Jones.

“He’s playing a character,” attorney Randall Wilhite told state District Judge Orlinda Naranjo, according to the Austin-American Statesman. “He is a performance artist.”

His ex-wife claims that Alex Jones is no different off air.

Kelly Jones, who is seeking sole or joint custody of their three children, argued at a pre-trial hearing that her ex-husband’s fiery public persona is no different from his private life.

“He’s not a stable person,” she said. “He says he wants to break Alec Baldwin’s neck. He wants J-Lo to get raped.”

“I’m concerned that he is engaged in felonious behavior, threatening a member of Congress,” she said, referring to Jones’ comments about Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. “He broadcasts from home. The children are there, watching him broadcast.”

Alex Jones’ attorney is trying very hard to prevent the trial from becoming about Infowars.

This news immediately raises a couple of thoughts.

First, someone married and had three children with Alex Jones. Let that sink in.

Second, if Jones is only playing a character, where does that leave his tinfoil hatted cult of followers? Will they end up convincing themselves that Alex’s lawyer is only saying what she has to in order to keep the Illuminati from keeping him away from his own children? Maybe they’ll end up weeping like the pathetic guy in that viral video who was poleaxed by the news that professional wrestling is a fake sport.

We should be so lucky.

Conspiracy nuts are too adept at rationalizing any and all evidence into being proof of the conspiracy. Much like Donald Trump could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose any of his supporters, Alex Jones can declare under oath that his paranoid nutjobbery is just an act and it will only confirm his wild theories in the minds of his fans. Conspiracy theories are as inevitable as death and taxes.

I hope the court makes the right decision on this one. Letting impressionable children watch their dad babble incoherently about conspiracies should probably be considered child abuse.
