Report: Sanders Hated Clinton’s ‘I’m With Her’ Slogan, Called It ‘Phony’

Sen. Bernie Sanders was recently asked about twice failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s slogan: “I’m With Her.”

He did not hold anything back as he called it “phony,” the Hill reports.

In the new book “Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign,” The Hill’s Amie Parnes and Sidewire’s Jonathan Allen described a situation in which the Clinton campaign reached out the Sanders campaign in September to ask if Bernie would look over a script they wrote for a new ad they were going to run for Hillary.

The Clinton campaign reportedly wanted Bernie Sanders to read the script in the ad where he offered praise to Hillary for her efforts in education, healthcare, and minimum wage proposals.

They also wanted Bernie to talk about how then-Republican nominee Donald Trump was wrong about climate change and the economy, asserting that he is going to be wrong about everything else. The script ended with Hillary’s slogan: “I’m with her.”

“It’s so phony!” Sanders said. “I don’t want to say that.”

For the record, not only do we all agree with Bernie here, but he also did not say that slogan in the ad.

The Clinton campaign decided not to use the ad in that they feared many knew Bernie wasn’t really “with her,” but was just doing what he could to defeat Donald Trump.

“People felt that it was him delivering his message, not Hillary’s,” said one Clinton aide that oversaw the focus group responses.

“People didn’t feel that it was an authentic pitch for her and what she wanted to do. It even had some backlash in folks saying that he’s not really supporting her.”

The ad was never televised, but it was broken down into soundbites that were used online.

Sanders was ultimately forced to endorse Hillary Clinton in July after falling short against defeating both Clinton and the DNC during the primaries.
