U.S. Army Blackhawk Helicopter Crashes on Maryland Golf Course

An Army chopper out of Fort Belvoir crashed this afternoon on a golf course in Maryland.

A military helicopter crashed early Monday afternoon on a golf course in St. Mary’s County in Southern Maryland, according to the Maryland State Police who said two people were taken by medical helicopter from the scene.

Army officials said a UH-60 Black Hawk out of Fort Belvoir had a hard landing on the course and that the conditions of three people onboard was not immediately clear. One person was taken by medical helicopter from the scene, Army officials said.

According to CNN eyewitness reports don’t make it clear exactly how or why the crash occurred.

One of the crew members was medevaced from the scene, Ft. Belvoir spokesperson Jimmie Cummings told CNN.

No additional details were provided about the other crewmembers or why the helicopter, which came from Ft. Belvoir, crashed at approximately 1:50 p.m.

One witness, Garrett Bowles, told CNN he thinks the helicopter hit some trees as it went down. One other helicopter was at the scene when it crashed, Bowles told CNN.

Another witness, Bianca Melton, told CNN the helicopter looked like it stalled out before crashing.
