 Hundreds of Popular Forces Arrive in Deir Ezzur to Join Syrian Army’s Anti-ISIL Operation

Military sources in Eastern Syria disclosed that hundreds of popular forces have arrived in Deir Ezzur province to join the Syrian Army troops in intensified attacks on ISIL to lift the siege of the city and its airbase.

The sources confirmed that hundreds of Assyrian fighters from the town of Qamishli in Hasaka province, which have participated in several battles against the ISIL, including the liberation operation of the town of Quaryatayn in Homs in 2016 and defense operation of the town of Sadad in Homs in 2015 have arrived in Deir Ezzur to help the army and its allies to end ISIL’s siege of Deir Ezzur.

A field source, meantime, said that more reinforcements will arrive in Deir Ezzur in coming days, adding that a large-scale operation will soon kick off to defeat ISIL in Deir Ezzur province.

Reports said earlier today that the army troops engaged in a fresh round of clashes with ISIL in the Southern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city, while the army aircraft bombed heavily the terrorists’ positions in nine different regions near the Eastern city.

The army units engaged in sporadic clashes with the ISIL in the Southern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city, killing and wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their positions.

In the meantime, the army opened tank fire at ISIL’s defense lines in Tamin Brigade base, inflicting major losses on them. The Syrian Air Force targeted badly ISIL’s concentration centers and movements in Tal (hill) 17, power company, areas near Tamin Brigade base, al-Maqaber (cemetery) region and the villages and regions of al-Hamidiyeh, Khasarat, Kanamat, Hatleh and Safireh, killing and wounding a number of militants and destroying their equipment.
