Jane, You Got Some ‘Splainin’ To Do

A true sign of the victim mentality so favored by those on the left side of the political aisle is a tendency to shift blame for bad behavior onto one of the social justice specters they’ve spent years developing.

For Jane Sanders, wife of former presidential candidate and current socialist Bernie Sanders, her specter of choice was obvious when investigations began into allegations of bank fraud while she helmed Burlington College: the investigators are sexist pigs who are going after her husband by trying to take down his wife.

That’s what she’s claiming now, anyway, as she and her husband lawyer up before an investigation that seeks to uncover why she lied to a bank about millions in donor money that did not exist so she could secure a $10 million loan and expand the now-defunct college.

“I find it incredibly sexist that basically he’s going after my husband by destroying my reputation, and that’s not OK,” Jane Sanders told The Boston Globe.

Of course the reason Jane can cry sexism is because the man responsible for starting the investigation, Brady Toensing, a candidate for U.S. attorney in Vermont (where Burlington College used to be), is a former official for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in that state. Mention Trump and the sexism just rolls off the tongue for liberals.

But Jane is going to have a hard time making this one stick. As Toensing notes, the investigation actually began in 2014 under the Obama administration, long before Trump was a GOP frontrunner. And, while it can be argued that politics could have played a role in the decision to investigate — Obama backed Hillary and we know Hillary had no problem playing hardball to delegitimize her opponent Bernie Sanders — Jane’s “sexism” boogeyman is a hard sell.

It’s increasingly difficult to make the cognitive dissonance work of the strong and powerful liberal woman still needing her fainting couch and blaming a man every time something fails to go her way. It begins to get offensive for those who may have faced actual discrimination — sexism in this case — and struggled through it, refusing to let it defeat them. Particularly if those who stared down their own real boogeyman were honest in their dealings.

Because Jane, so far, it looks like there’s enough on you to continue the investigation; not just into your fraudulent loan but also into the raise in your salary as the college slowly failed, your apparently dismal leadership skills and your husband’s pressure on the bank to grant the loan.
