Iraqi Army Drives ISIL out of More Key Positions in Tal Afar Region

The Iraqi Army troops, backed up by the country’s volunteer forces of Hashd al-Shaabi, pushed ISIL back from several villages on the second day of their operation to liberate Tal Afar city in Northwestern Iraq, chief of the Iraqi Federal Police Shaker Jowdat said Monday.

Major General Shaker Jowdat said that the Iraqi forces, supported by Hashd al-Shaabi, imposed control over the strategic villages of Molla Jasem and Abrah Aziz West of Tal Afar, killing 20 terrorists in the clashes.

He further said that the Iraqi forces managed to advance towards al-Kafah, al-Wahda and al-Sa’ad regions, taking control over a network of tunnels used by ISIL as a control and training center.

Jowdat went on to say that the Iraqi pro-government forces drove ISIL out of the village of Mohsen al-Abadi West of Tal Afar and advanced towards the villages of Tarmi and al-Ayaz, adding that the Iraqi forces further engaged in tough battle with ISIL and imposed control over the two villages of Halaweh and Abu Shakeh East of al-Mahlabiyeh.

Relevant reports said on Sunday that the army and Hashd al-Shaabi captured several regions South of the ISIL-held city of Tal Afar and managed to lay siege on the terrorists in the Southern direction of the city.

The Iraqi units and Hashd al-Shaabi won four hills in the Southern direction of Tal Afar and trapped ISIL in a circle of their forces.

Also, the Iraqi pro-government forces took control of the village of Tal al-Saban West of Tal Afar.

In the meantime, the Iraqi Federal Police forces, backed up by Hashd al-Shaabi, liberated Abrah al-Najar, Abrah Hanash, al-Abrah al-Saqirah and al-Abrah al-Kabirah regions in Western direction of Tal Afar.

The Iraqi police also pushed ISIL out of the villages of Qazal Qi’yu and Kasar Mehrab Southeast of Tal Afar.

The Iraqi forces ended their mop-up operation successfully in the villages of Batisheh, al-Alam, Khafajeh, Halbiyeh al-Oliya, Tal al-Masbak and the Southern part of Zambar mountains East of Tal Afar.

The Iraqi forces, meantime, cut off the ISIL’s supply line from Tal Afar to al-Mahalbiyeh.

The Arabic-language al-Mayadeen TV reported that five ranking members of the military council of ISIL commanders were in Tal Afar.

The Syrian army hit hard the terrorists’ military positions, hardware and defense lines in Hama province.

The terrorists in Hama province sustained heavy losses in tough battle with the Syrian army.

The Syrian army also continued its advances in other key provinces across Syria.

Hama

The Syrian Army troops drove ISIL terrorists out of three more villages in Eastern Hama on Sunday after hours of non-stop clashes and killing or wounding a number of militants.

The army men engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL and captured the villages of al-Dakileh al-Shamali, al-Dakileh al-Janoubi and Um Hartin.

In the meantime, the army soldiers won control of a set of hills overlooking the Southern part of Um Hartin.

The army killed 10 ISIL terrorists and destroyed several military vehicles in the attack.

Dara’a

Samer Ahmad al-Amari, a notorious field commander of a terrorist group affiliated to the Free Syrian Army (FSA), was killed in a booby-trapped car bomb blast in Eastern Dara’a, well-informed sources confirmed on Sunday.

The sources said that al-Amari was killed along with three of his aids as a result of a booby-trapped bomb explosion in one of the vehicles of the FSA-affiliated al-Thowar battalion along the road connecting the towns of al-Sourah and al-Qariyeh al-Sharqi.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian Army troops, backed up by the country’s Air Force, attacked ISIL’s positions and movements in Deir Ezzur city and its outskirts on Sunday, killing at least 20 and destroying several command centers.

The army’s artillery and missile units shelled heavily ISIL’s positions in al-Maqaber region, Tal (hill) Alloush and al-Huweiqa neighborhood in Deir Ezzur and its outskirts, killing at least 20 militants.

Meantime, the army soldiers stormed ISIL’s defense lines in al-Maqaber, al-Thardah mountain, Panorama base and Regiment 137 base, killing a number of militants and destroying several command centers, positions and a large volume of arms and ammunition.

Also, local sources reported that commander of the Headquarter of “Caliphate’s Young Lions” Abu Abadah Shami escaped Deir Ezzur along with his family members.

The Russian Air Force targeted a number of ISIL positions in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur and its outskirts on Saturday, destroying a large depot of arms and ammunition in the city’s districts.

The warplanes bombed heavily ISIL’s positions in Civil Defense region North of al-Mufti Grand Mosque in Deir Ezzur city, destroying a large weapons and munitions depot of the terrorists.

The fighter jets, later, targeted ISIL’s defense lines in Jonayd division base, Tal Aloush, Tal Milad in the Southwestern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city.

The Russian army aircraft further struck al-Rabi’at region South of Panorama region, and the two regions of al-Maqaber region and al-Khazanat Southwest of Tamin.

Homs

The Syrian Army soldiers drove the ISIL terrorists out of more positions in an energy field region after hours of heavy fighting in Eastern Homs in their push towards Deir Ezzur.

The army men stormed ISIL’s defense lines in surrounding of the recently-liberated town of al-Sukhnah and managed to free a gas field 5km far away al-Sukhnah along the road to Deir Ezzur.

In the meantime, other units of the army engaged in fierce clashes with ISIL near the captured gas field and took control of several hills and houses 3km away from the gas field.

Aleppo

The Syrian Army has forward a long column of military hardware and equipment, including T-90 battle tanks, to Western territories of Aleppo province, video footage showed on Sunday.

According to video footages, the army has sent a convoy of military vehicles, including T-90 tanks to the battlefield in Western Aleppo.

Considering that latest-generation military equipment of the army is generally located in areas where government offensives are underway, the spotting of this particular T-90 might serve as an indication that such an operation is in the works for Western Aleppo.

The T-90 is the most modern tank design available to army forces and in many ways it represents the military revival of the Syrian army that at the beginning of the war on terrorism in the country only possessed an aging fleet of T-55s, T-62s and monkey model T-72s.
