The Matt Lauer Situation Is Worse Than We Thought

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Dude.

So you’ve all probably heard about the firing of Matt Lauer from his position with NBC News as co-host of the “Today” show.

Initially, all we were hearing was that there was some kind of sexual misconduct with a staffer in 2014, and that after investigation, management determined that it wasn’t an isolated incident.

So, yeah. The creeper had to go.

Variety.com covered some of Lauer’s misdeeds in more detail, and I have to say… they’re doozies.

At what point in time and in what world would this ever be considered ok?

Variety apparently conducted a two-month long investigation, with dozens of interviews of past and present staffers. Out of all that, they’ve identified three women, with corroboration by friends and colleagues, who were harassed by Lauer on the job. At present, the women have asked to remain anonymous, out of fear of professional repercussions.

And that is a shame.

Another lovely feature of NBC with Matt Lauer aboard:

Good grief.

Today’s announcement of Lauer’s firing was due to a detailed complaint by a colleague, who went to NBC bosses Monday, with complaints of behavior that began in 2014 while on a trip at the Sochi Olympics, and apparently carried on for several more months.

In making the announcement of his firing, NBC News chairman Andy Lack says this was the first complaint of Lauer’s behavior in his 20 years with the network, but that may not be the case.

It is the current climate of zero tolerance for sexual misconduct in the media that prompted NBC executives to act.

Lauer’s preoccupation with sex and the bodies of women he worked with was a problem, but one everybody just swept under the rug.

He had some consensual affairs that were the stuff of office gossip, as well as one-nighters with star-struck groupies while on the road.

And yes, he’s a married man.

He even had his office rigged for maximum creep effect.

In an interesting twist, Lauer’s booker, Matt Zimmerman, was fired earlier this month for sexual harassment.

And former MSNBC jerk, Keith Olbermann piled on, as well.

Lauer is not just a creep. He’s a hypocritical creep.

When the stories about Fox News’ own sexual harassment problems were hot, Lauer actually covered the stories with a straight face.

He also interviewed Bill O’Reilly with a straight face.

Hhmmm… Maybe you can answer your own question, Matt.

Lauer gives me the impression he is an alcoholic for some reason.

The recurring theme shows that the networks are accomplices to these crimes and just as guilty as the actual perps.

I think, Murphy’s Law is the rule, when women work outside of the home, but am surprised at the hedonism, which is afforded to a journalist, in a nationalized media platform. Gray suits, buzzed hair. I don’t see why he is any more influential, than one of those city clerks, who is contacted for records requests. He doesn’t have much of a personality, so far as I can tell, and doesn’t really need one, to report events, objectively. Women, you are independent, empowered, or a damsel in distress. Which deserves my concern, more. It would just be a scuzzy powm or Craiglist ad, if he was doing these same antics, to macho men. We are propositioned by sniffers of bicycle seats and crap eaters and don’t have an identity crisis. #MeToo

Sounds like not only was Lauer getting a jerk-off with his questions but that he may have been trying to get something on staffers.

He was grossly over paid anyway. Glad he got caught. Now can we have some real news for a change?

No excuse for such behavior. But the women are at least a bit complicit in this. Just like in the Hollywood scandals. They kept quiet hoping to keep their jobs or maybe get a career boost. In the end it mostly amounts to a 20 year old he said she said situation….

Yeah but not in this case, Arte Vespule, here the announcement of Lauer’s firing was due to a detailed complaint by a colleague, who went to NBC bosses Monday, with complaints of behavior that began in 2014.
