Speculation Rises Over Trump’s Slurred Speech (Video)

So does the man have bad dentures, or is he slipping, mentally?

There was a lot of speculation going on after Trump’s speech on Wednesday, where he publicly announced what has been U.S. policy since 1995.

Specifically, his acknowledgement of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and the plans to move the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem (Notice he didn’t give a date, then he later quietly signed the waiver to prevent the move, away from his adoring public).

What some are noticing is that Trump is using the podium to support himself, and most notably, the slurred speech.

Steve Schmidt, the former campaign manager for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, appeared on Morning Joe Thursday, in a discussion about Trump’s well-being.

“I don’t know the cause of it, but when you combine it with [Sen.] Bob Corker’s (R-Tenn.) critique that the president of the United States is unstable, that he’s dangerous, when you look at the private comments that are made by members of Congress around his stability, you look at his actions in recent weeks,” said Schmidt, who is also an MSNBC contributor, on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Trump did seem to be having trouble. A White House spokesman blew it off as a dry throat, but this wasn’t a dry throat issue, obviously. This seemed more a problem with his lips and how he was forming the words.

“The question of his fitness, of his stability, is in the air,” Schmidt later added. “And it doesn’t get better when you see clear impairments.”

This impairment, according to some other estimations, had to do with ill-fitting dentures.

My mama recently got dentures and she struggles with the fit, to the point that her speech has a different quality to it.

#DentureDon was trending for a bit on social media Wednesday night, so apparently, others were thinking the same thing.

Schmidt, as well as the others on the panel considered the dentures, but also wondered about other potential causes of what looks to be deteriorating physical abilities with the 71 year old president.

We all know people age differently. Scarborough showed a clip of Trump speaking 30 years ago, where his speech patterns were clear and strong. He was actually making sense, as he spoke. He sounded nothing like he does today.

They also pointed out Winston Churchill at 71, or Ronald Reagan at 73 years old as examples of men who maintained their grasp of their speech into their 70s.

But Trump is different. There really is marked deterioration. Whether it’s just part of his act, or there’s something that needs to be looked into, we just don’t have enough information.

“I don’t know. Is that a tooth problem? Is that something else?” Schmidt asked on Thursday. “Presidents every year typically go to the Bethesda naval hospital for a checkup. This president, to my knowledge, is departing from that. We don’t have updates on his health. We don’t know what’s going on, but this is a legitimate issue worthy of consideration. This is the man who commands America’s nuclear arsenal. And that video, that speech, that impairment, is chilling.”

That’s a good point. Trump has yet to go for his first checkup as president. We can only wonder how long he’ll put it off, and when he does, will he go to Bethesda, or will he insist on having his personal doctor hastily scribble a note, while Trump waits in his limo, saying Trump is the healthiest man in history, and his eyes can shoot lasers?

I have parents that are within Trump’s age-range. I can offer this (and if any others have parents in the age range, they can back me up): Up until my daddy was put on Hospice care in October, he had regular visits to doctors, every couple of months, or so.

My mama, who is quite spry and still works full-time as a nurse, has a check-up and other odds and ends she needs to see the doctor about several times per year.

It’s just part of the aging process. Things don’t work the way they used to. You spring leaks. Your joints need extra grease. And if you’re not making the effort to stay on top of those issues, coupled with what appears to be little sleep and awful eating habits, it takes a toll.

So whatever was going on with Trump during that speech, it could have been something really minor, like new dentures, or it could have been something more concerning.

We probably won’t know until Trump has his first physical examination.
