Indiana Republican Congressman Trolls Pelosi with ‘CRUMBS Act’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is the gift that keeps on giving for Republicans. This week, she took a break from providing delightfully good sound bites for Republican Congressional candidates to use in ads to inspire some legislation.

Democrats are scrambling as they try to figure out how to make the American people stop liking their tax cuts from the GOP tax bill so much — a task made harder by the steady stream of positive news stories that keep popping up about businesses deciding to give employee bonuses. Since the bill was signed into law, hundreds of companies across the country have publicly announced bonuses, raises, or increased employer contributions to their employees’ 401(k) plans.

Pelosi infamously referred to these bonuses as “crumbs” and “pathetic” as she attempted to denounce the tax bill last month. Her comments were met with ridicule as out-of-touch, for a multimillionaire like Pelosi to dismiss bonuses totaling $1,000 or more.

Now, Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN) is having a little more fun at Pelosi’s expense, while continuing the fight for lower taxes on working Americans.

According to The Daily Wire, Rosita has drafted a bill titled the “Creating Relief and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings Act” — in other words, the CRUMBS Act — which would exempt from taxation any bonuses paid by employers under the new tax bill, up to $2,500 during 2018.

“Americans are receiving thousands of dollars in bonuses and more money in their paychecks thanks to President Trump’s tax reform, but out-of-touch Democratic leaders believe they only amount to crumbs,” Rokita said in a statement. “The CRUMBS Act will let Americans keep more of the money they receive as a result of President Trump’s tax reform, and allow them, not the government, to choose how best to spend their bonuses.”
