More Broadside Attacks and Calls to Fire Robert Mueller From Trump Loyalists

Now that special counsel Robert Mueller has edged right up against Trump, issuing subpoenas for Trump Organization business records, as well as submitting interview questions to Trump’s legal team, in preparation for a face-to-face interview, the Trump loyalists have become restless.

Trump, against the advice of his counsel, has began addressing Mueller and his investigation directly.

There is also no doubt in my mind that Trump has employed his surrogates to ratchet up the attacks, where he can’t.

I wrote earlier about Sean Hannity’s spittle-flecked attack on Mueller’s character, citing a failure in a case involving mobster Whitey Bulger back in the 80s.

Now, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert is carrying out his marching orders, calling for Mueller to be fired.

“I think Mueller should be fired,” Gohmert said during the monthly “Conversation with Conservatives” meeting on Wednesday. “He should never have been appointed and he should never have accepted. He should be fired.”

Gohmert isn’t so far gone, mentally, that he doesn’t realize that to fire Mueller now would likely end up in an impeachment proceeding for Trump.

“The only reason that he is not going and the president is not going to fire him and that I am not calling for him to be fired now is…because of all the establishment Republicans that think they would have to come after Trump if he were fired.”

And they would be joined by a large number of Democrats.

Gohmert suffers from the same ignorance of Mueller’s authority as pretty much all of the street-level MAGA warriors. Concerning, considering that Gohmert is a member of Congress and you should expect that our elected representatives have a better understanding of these types of things.

Mueller has been given broad authority to begin with collusion and obstruction, but to investigate any crime or wrongdoing that is uncovered, in the process.

Oddly, no matter how many times it’s explained, they still can’t quite grasp what that means, so they keep blurting out, “No collusion! No collusion!” like some kind of nervous tic.

Gohmert drilled on, so you know the pat on the head he gets from dear leader will be ample.

“Anything beyond Russian collusion are things that could be investigated, should be investigated, by the current DOJ, the current FBI, and not a special counsel that is covering his own rear and his own problems that he created in allowing U.S. uranium to be sold,” Gohmert said about Mueller.

Oh, Fox News talking points. How coordinated.

“I knew the day that Robert Mueller was appointed that he was a problem,” Gohmert said.

Meanwhile, no one else seemed to have a problem with the man, on either side of the aisle, and even within Trump’s cabal of faithful clingers.

It only became problematic when it became clear that Mueller was serious about the task assigned to him.

Expect to hear more of the Trump faithful come out with attacks on Mueller.

Expect more breathless Hannity pieces, with brackets and boards, linking Mueller to every conceivable manner of corruption and calamity.

Trump has given the orders, and the noise from the propaganda machine is about to become deafening.

And I doubt Mueller will say a word.
