Petty and Childish: Trump Declares Retaliation On “The People Of Canada” Over Trudeau’s Post-G-7 Comments

On the heels of playing footsy with North Korea’s murderous dictator, Pres. Donald Trump decided to ramp up his rhetoric against the United State’s longest and closest North American ally.

Trump told reporters in Singapore “the people of Canada” will now suffer because Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated Canada’s dismay on Trump’s intention to levy tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel, calling the reasoning for it an “insult” to Canadians.

“That’s going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada. He learned. You can’t do that. You can’t do that,” Trump said Tuesday.

After the G-7 summit in Canada last week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a news conference,

“It would be with regret but it would be with absolute certainty and firmness that we move forward with retaliatory measures on July 1st, applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that the Americans have unjustly applied to us,” Trudeau said then. “I have made it very clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing, but it something that we absolutely will do, because Canadians: we’re polite, we’re reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around.”

Trump picking this fight with Canadians and Trudeau in particular — a man he claims to like — is reprehensible and embarrassing considering the United States had a goods and services trade surplus of $8.4 billion with our neighbors to the North in 2017.

Trudeau did nothing but say something similar, albeit more politely, to what Trump has gone around to our trade partners and closest allies, beating his chest about doing for America — looking after and working for the best interests of his countrymen. Trump simply can’t handle having his rhetoric served back to him.
