Anti-Gun “If It Saves Just One Life” Crowd Nowhere to be Found After Gun Saves Houston Woman’s Life

How many times a month, or possibly week, do we see a story pop up in our news feeds about a good guy with a gun saving his own life, or the lives of those around him? I’m sure somebody has an exact count, but it happens so often that I honestly lose track.

Contrary to the “good guy with a gun doesn’t exist” narrative, the vast majority of Americans are good and at least one in three of us are armed according to cautious estimates. I’m not a betting man, but if I were, I’d say that ratio is probably a tad larger.

This is why we see so many stories of the good guy shooting the bad guy. The chances of a criminal successfully completing a crime dramatically fall when a gun wielding, law abiding citizen arrives on the scene. In fact, you’re statistically safer with Texas’s educated gun wielders than you are walking around British streets where they don’t allow guns.

Further proof of this can be found in a recent story about a man who shot a criminal ready to do who knows what with his wife according to Dallas News:

The robbery occurred after the woman arrived home about 10:30 p.m, Houston CBS affiliate KHOU-TV reported. Police said the two attackers took her purse while she was in the driveway and then tried to force her inside the house.

Her husband heard the struggle, grabbed his gun and fired at the intruders. One of the attackers was shot in the head during an exchange of gunfire, the station reported.

The other robber made a break for it, but his buddy was left with more than a splitting headache thanks to a dose of hot lead. At this time, his condition hasn’t been released.

We don’t know what would have happened to the woman had her husband not arrived, gun in hand. Their forcing her into her home could have been another step in their crime that could have ended with violations of her person, and possibly even death.

So here we have a story of a gun saving yet another life. My question is, why doesn’t her life matter to the people who I hear say that we should ban guns “if it saves just one life?” Why is it that we see guns saving lives nearly every day, yet those people who do tend to care about saving lives tend to completely ignore them?

They would predictably answer that guns cause mass shootings. That these types of shootings happen every day. I would remind them that statistically, mass shootings are actually very rare despite what CNN and Everytown says, and that they are actually on the decline.

Heritage has the numbers:

Since 1992, when the NCES began to compile data on school-related violent deaths, the highest number of on-campus student homicides at K–12 schools in a single school year has been 34, which occurred during the 1992–1993 and 1997–1998 school years. During the 2013–2014 school year, the NCES concluded that there was approximately one student homicide or suicide at school for every 2.8 million enrolled students. Meanwhile, an average of 50 children ages 7 to 18 are murdered by their parents every year.

At this time, an average of 10 students die every year due to gun related incidents at school. This number is still horrible, but compare that to the fact that 800 children die on average every year just traveling to and from school.

Now let’s add to the fact that those mass shootings that the anti-gun groups are so worried about happen primarily where there are no guns. A staggeringly high 98.4 percent of mass shootings occur in gun-free zones.

So let’s review…

Places that have high, legal gun ownership tend to see far less crime than places that have no gun ownership. Places where guns aren’t legally allowed tend to see monstrously higher homicide rates due to guns. However, while school shootings that tragically take the lives of multiple children do happen, they’re actually rare and dissipating.

The numbers tell us that guns are, despite the hysterics, an overall boon to a civilized society. They save lives.

I don’t understand why those who wish to see our guns taken constantly ignore stories like the kind seen in Houston, or statistics that show guns help us, but I can tell you that a good majority of Americans don’t ignore it. They see that guns save lives, and are a good way to protect the self and the home.

Meanwhile, many of those wishing to strip us of our guns because they’re too dangerous, especially to children, are demonstrate in idiotic ways in the streets when they feel the slightest of tremors when abortion is threatened. If you want to eliminate something if it saves just one life, let’s start at Planned Parenthood. Their death count hits around 300,000 a year, and number around 7 million in total.

Yes, guns can be used to take life, but not only is it a deterrent, it can be used to take the life of the evil to save the life of the innocent. Planned Parenthood can’t claim that.
