Children Should Have Gender-Transition Surgery Without Parental Permission: Psychologists

This is pretty chilling, particularly when it applies to irreversible surgery.

According to the Daily Wire:

A top psychology group representing 24,000 psychologists in Australia claims children should neither have to get parental consent nor undergo mandatory counseling to undergo irreversible gender-transition surgeries.

The Australian Psychological ­Society (APS), according to a report from The Australian, “says the disapproval of both parents should not inhibit a child under 16 from consenting to procedures,” The Daily Mail reported last week.

The top group argued that children suffering from gender confusion would be assessed by “competent” doctors, which would apparently trump any parental reservations.

The psychologists said the mandatory counseling was frequently an “unnecessary burden on the child.”

What about the fact that the parents object? Does their opinion matter as it would in every other surgery let alone such significant and life-changing surgery?

The psychologists’ conclusion seemed to regard the parents as a hindrance rather than as people who had the right to speak on behalf of the child. According to the psychologists, the children have probably already had “considerable medical oversight” and so therefore, “Parents who disapprove of their children’s medical treatment pose a ‘significant barrier’ for the child, it said.”

Significant barrier, yikes. This is a child under age 16. And the psychologists treat the parents’ opinion as a mere impediment to be swept aside.

This is especially troubling in light of the reports of regret which many have had after having the surgery. Here’s a recent report from my colleague Brandon Morse, noting how many are coming in “by the hundreds” to try to get reversal surgery.

But according to Sky News, the community is out there. In fact, a former transgendered person, Charlie Evans, came across a community of 5,000 people who wished to de-transition back into their normal selves.

In fact, Evans noticed a pattern.

“I’m in communication with 19 and 20-year-olds who have had full gender reassignment surgery who wish they hadn’t, and their dysphoria hasn’t been relieved, they don’t feel better for it,” said Evans, ”I think some of the common characteristics are that they tend to be around their mid-20s, they’re mostly female and mostly same-sex attracted, and often autistic as well.”

Evans has started the “The Detransition Advocacy Network” to help people like herself.

Evans told the story of “Ruby” who started transitioning at 13. She took testosterone and planned on getting breast removal surgery. Now an adult at 21, she realizes she’s a female and regrets the actions.

How troubling that psychologists would now proceed without either counseling or parental consent in such cases. And now, when such reports come out that people with gender dysphoria may want to reverse their decision and the surgery, the reports are not always given air because some regard them as being not supportive of transgender people.

But how supportive are you when you are proceeding without such knowledge, without counseling, without consent of the parents and with a child who is under age 16?
