Pearl Harbor to Celebrate 70 Years of Peace

The Pearl Harbor Visitors Bureau announced it will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Japanese surrender of World War II at a ceremony on the Battleship Missouri Memorial. It will take place Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 9:02am HST, the same time the unconditional surrender was signed 70 years ago.

While anchored in Tokyo Bay, USS Missouri hosted the surrender ceremony, conducted by Supreme Allied Commander, General Douglas A. MacArthur. This marked the formal ending of WWII and the beginning of seven decades of peace.

The upcoming event will feature a keynote address by Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii. Admiral Scott Swift, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet will appear as the distinguished guest speaker.

Historical artifacts will be on display at the new End of WWII Exhibit located in the Wardroom of the Battleship Missouri Memorial.

On September 2, Pearl Harbor sites including The Arizona Memorial, USS Oklahoma Memorial, the Pacific Aviation Museum, and USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park will be open to the public and observe regular hours.
