On Friday, October 28, the Church of Scientology Atlanta in coordination with the Georgia Foundation for a Drug Free World presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Sandy Springs Police Department in honor of all enforcement officers who have given or risked their lives to prevent illicit trafficking and abuse.
The presentation was made on the steps of the Church of Scientology Atlanta located on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. The award was accepted on behalf of the Sandy Springs Police Dept by Lt. Steve Rose and Officer Corey Begeal, Community Affairs liaison. In a statement by the Sandy Springs Chief of Police, Kenneth DeSimone, “We are very proud to have been honored by the Drug Free World Foundation and the Church of Scientology simply to do what we signed up to do!” And we thank both organizations for this recognition.”
Red Ribbon Week originated in 1988 in honor of the sacrifice of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena who died at the hands of drug lords while trying to stop the spread and abuse of illicit drugs into the U.S. Red Ribbon Week is now in its 31st year and reaches over 100 million people.
In support of this annual event, the Church of Scientology proudly sponsors the Foundation for a Drug Free World, a non-profit organization offering a free drug education program and materials that provide information on drug ab9use including hard facts about drugs, dependency and their dangerous side effects.
