The Vision of Britain 2017 report showcases findings from research conducted on over 2,000 people with the findings already shared in newspapers and on radio including the BBC. While the report unveils some disturbing facts about the fragile and diminishing state of eye health in the UK, it is also packed with must know tips on how best to protect one’s vision. The 20 pages of informative eye health research contains various sections including eye tests, protecting children’s eyes, which eyecare professional to visit and when, eye surgery facts and the role of technology both as a cause and cure for failing vision. The Vision of Britain report, the second such one commissioned by Optegra Eye Health Care, was developed in partnership with Boots Opticians. Director of Professional Standards at Boots Opticians, Eddie Watson, commented about the growing scourge of vision disorders within the UK, partly attributing this to lifestyle trends such as people spending an increasing amount of time on digital devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. Mr Watson also highlighted the concerning rise in vision problems among the young, pointing out that myopia (short sightedness) for children has doubled over the past 50 years. The report sheds light on the silently destructive impact undiagnosed vision disorders can have on children, including problems with literacy, education and physical fitness.
