The South Africa no one’s Ever Seen or even Heard of… Except South Africans
Almost everyone in the world knows what Elephants and lions look like and where they live… in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, one the largest game reserves on the African continent, and the most diverse with 14 distinct ecozones coverning 18,989 square kilometers (7,332 sq miles) of the top right hand corner of South Africa.
Larger than eighty countries the closest in size are Slovenia and El Salvador.
Compare it to Wales or the US state of New Jersey to get an idea. It is 360 kilometers (220 miles) from north to south and 65 kilometers (40 miles) from east to west. Allow at least three days to drive the length at game drive speeds.
West and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. The Kruger is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a Peace Park that links Kruger across the international borders with Gonarezhou National Park (Zimabwe) and Limpopo National Park (Mozambique). This lot combined are the size of Holland or Maryland. Bring your passport and explore!
Many know something about the fabled Cape vineyards and the magnificent wines produced there.
But very few people outside of Southern Africa know where God’s Window is situated: five kilometers from the small town of Graskop in Mpumalanga and about 50km from the Kruger Park.
Graskop is in Mpumalanga Province, a gold mining camp in the 1800’s but now a tourist destination ‘WHERE THE SUN RISES!’
Formerly known as Eastern Transvaal, Mpumalanga is considered one of the most geographically diverse and unbelievably beautiful places in South Africa.
It’s near the magnificent Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, the Kruger National Park and the Sabie Waterfalls are all within easy driving distance along the panoramic Leuveld Escarpment.
Even a hardened cynic would find it difficult not to be awed by the physical and spiritual beauty of the vista from God’s Window, or by the dramatic landscape of the Blyde River Canyon and its nature reserve, which stretches from Graskop right up to the Abel Erasmus Pass.

There is a fence around the Kruger Park…
DIRECTIONS From Johannesburg take the N4 to Belfast. Turn left on the R540 to Dullstroom and Mashishing (Lydenburg) and follow signs to Graskop via Sabie or Pilgrim’s Rest.
