It's About Your Destiny

Preordination, predetermination, providence, destiny, fate, etc…

In my last book chapter excerpt I simply pulled out a chapter from my book “Sin Thesis” and posted it here. The chapter was called “Determinism vs Freewill.” This doesn’t work with every subject because many topics are intertwined with other chapters and have to be modified before I post. This chapter about “Preordination” can be looked at as a continuation of the chapter on determinism because although they are separate they are closely related.

Preordination is most often concerned within the context of divine preordination but it’s not limited to that context. In religions, there are those who were chosen for some greater purpose. Prophets are often considered chosen by God to speak revelations. We all know of prophets and leaders, Moses, Noah and others. Because of my extraterrestrial encounters I discuss in the book and the fact that I believe that they selected me. I was often interested in how these biblical figures were chosen.

A story I read about may or may not give us insight and it is the story of David. David was the King of Israel for 40 years found in 1 Samuel 16, the youngest son of a man named Jesse. The prophet Samuel was guided by God to find a King to replace Saul whose reign was coming to an end. Samuel was first presented with several others of Jesse’s sons but none would do. God is omniscient and chose David using supernatural means. He sees within the heart and the mind he looked beyond the strengths of the others and chose David who no one else considered worthy. As I’ve mentioned, Moses, Noah and many others we find in the bible were also chosen by God.

Are biblical examples all we find as instances of those chosen? For instance, within the context of those destined for greatness is there some divine intervention in the lives of people and world events? I believe there is. For instance George Washington was believed to be chosen or some say preordained, as a leader for greatness. If this is true, then it is a direct intervention in world events by outside forces.

Who is intervening? Is God the only entity capable of intervening with world events? There is of course the story we’ve all heard about Washington’s contact with aliens. Yes, that’s right… The story goes, that Washington who was a devout Christian who while at Valley Forge went into the woods on his own to pray. There he had a vision or visitation with a being that told him of the future. The story appeared in the National Tribune in 1880 and a copy is held in the Library of Congress. There are other stories of Washington being visited by “greenskins” by British Historian Quentin Burde who tells of Washington having secret meetings with them.

Christopher Columbus also a Christian is also believed to have been chosen for greatness. In 1492 Christopher Columbus writes in his log that he and Pedro Gutierrez while on the deck of the Santa Maria, observed, “a light glimmering at a great distance.” It vanished and then reappeared several times during the night, moving up and down, “in sudden and passing gleams.” It was sighted four hours before land was sighted and taken by Columbus as a sign that they would soon come to land.

Even for whatever your opinions are about the Christian church, I personally believe that it was preordained as the preferred new world religion. Though along with Spain and the church there would always be negative consequences to progress, I believe that it was all part of some grand plan.

Many early Americans also believed in divine preordination or what they called “Manifest Destiny.” The phrase itself was attributed to New York journalist John L, O’Sullivan in 1844. It is the belief that God willed the continent to the Americans to spread “Protestant republican democracy.” It was also believed that the Americans’ mission was to dominate the Americas.

I also believe in divine preordination but believe it was the Christians that were meant to dominate the Americas. I won’t lay my theory completely out for you as to why because it is for another book. But why Columbus rather than someone else? Many will say that others arrived before Columbus after all but didn’t capitalize on the discovery. Also, what are history’s alternatives? This is something that is always looked at in hindsight when considering preordained events, we do it all the time. For instance, what if Germany or Japan won in WW2? You can work the conclusions out in your mind as to what our lives would look like.

Try a thought experiment by running different scenarios and your own individual perceived outcomes. Had it been any other European, Asian or African nations would we be free today? If it had been Germany, China, Italy or Muslims instead of Spain and Christianity which arrived here first, what would the world look like today? If you run these scenarios and come to the same conclusion, then you may understand the theory of predetermination and outside intervention. Sometimes, there are no other acceptable scenarios and it would seem preordained.

There are many others who are said to have been preordained like Jesus, Cortes, Joan of Arc, Hitler, Patton, Buddha and the list could be endless. That’s not to say that they had no freewill at all, perhaps their choices which molded who they were, were the reasons they were chosen to fill their roles to begin with. It also doesn’t mean that the rest of us are unimportant to the big picture, because besides being important to your loved ones you may have a bigger role than you know.

The realization that no one is going to tell most of us what our part is in the big picture doesn’t mean we don’t have one. While talking with a friend who’s sold over a million music instruction DVDs. I once said to him that we may never know our purpose. This is because we may never know who we’ve influenced. Being that we were both musicians I said it could be someone who heard one of your songs. Him also being a music instructor, I said it could be one of your students. It could be someone on the other side of the world who read something you wrote. We have to just do what we do, believe we have freewill and hope we can have some positive influence in the world or on someone else who does.

Many of the sources I used for this book never got much recognition during their lives and only after they were no longer with us did they attain recognition. A number of writers, painters, musicians, scientists and others have suffered this fate. In some cases throughout time some claimed to have had visitations or visions or dreams. They claimed they were told that they were going to do something great. Others were told what to do through visions or dreams. Yet with others as in the case of Buddha it was foretold. The rest of us positive thinkers who may never have visions or visitations will just have to live out our lives never knowing. We’ll go on believing we have freewill and we’ll just have to remain guessing…

An all knowing creator IT + Free will = Oxymoron, they are opposing absolutes, you can have one OR the other, not both, because one would rule out the other. If we have free will then IT can’t know the future and would have to judge after the fact. If there is an all knowing creator IT, freewill could not exist, we would be left with predestination to follow the known future exactly like a preprogrammed Sim. In which case IT would have no need to judge anything other than IT’s own programming skills.

You can’t have it both ways, is IT all knowing or not.. which is it?

With the religious indoctrination that oxymorons can coexist, it creates a mental condition called ‘cognitive dissonance’. The affect of which causes the brain to shut down it’s critical thinking and applied logic abilities. You are turning yourselves into the mentally retarded.

Pix, this is why this subject is fertile ground for writers, philosophers, theologians and scientists to this day. It has been a paradox from the beginning. Theologically we have prophets which once chosen can’t possibly have freewill and could have never had it since there was foreknowledge of them being selected. Then we have Adam given choice and commandments which are dependent upon freewill. One reasoning is that a creator exists outside of space time and outside of any possible human comprehension. Luckily this is only a chapter I chose to touch on. Anyone could write a whole book about it and end up with no conclusion. Others have written books about it and no one ever has come to a conclusion.

But you don’t exist Pix. So what’s the problem?

          Other persons do of course.

          Just not you.
